    I can't believe the U.S. is anywhere near the right hand side of this chart in recent times.

    I have to imagine it was completely off the right of the chart (but obviously not as high) before the first federal income tax was passed, after which the federal government started the death-march to the overbearing, jackbooted operation it has now become.

    I have yet to see a person who can seriously defend why the federal government tax rate should be higher than their state/local taxes?!?!? Do we really think the national consensus on every thing is what all locales should live by?

    It isn't practical is it? Government is best done locally. To do it locally, you must not allow a giant overlord of a federal system to tax the people universally. The power to tax and coin is the power to rule.

    Tax people locally / regionally, then have those governmental entities provide for the national good for purposes of defence and commerce. Anything else is an affront to freedom as far as I'm concerned.
