Political dscussion? Where's it at because I just went through the last 4 pages of this thread and all I see is copy-and-past articles from random sources.
Reviewing the entire thread -- I find that many of the posted articles have a political angle. There are numerous articles about climate change pushing countries over the edge and the political perspectives on climate change. Admittedly most of the thread involves articles posted by Ricter to spark discussion. However climate change is very much a political issue. If the intent is to start moving threads around then the following two threads found on page 1 of Chit Chat should obviously be moved to Politics. Constitutional Rights vs. Tyrannical Government Obama Plus dozens of other Political threads in Chit Chat. However the bottom line is that it's your forum and your choice on what to do.
I see them as well researched and put forward without really stating an agenda(although the agenda is perhaps obvious). I,personally,am an 'earth cycles' believer rather than a 'man made calamity' believer but my beliefs have shifted slightly the last few years. I think stating the opposing view on here is valid and,in fact, important for the forum. Gotta keep your eyes open. Its easy to find yourself on the wrong side of history. Re discussion,I actually only encountered the thread after @Ricter queried it in the feedback forum. FWIW I watched Attenborough today, following a certain frog in the 'cloudy mountains' of Ecuador and also the elephant in a certain part of Africa. If you can tip your cap to him as having an unparalleled grasp of nature, you will start to understand that we have experienced a 30% loss in various species and he backs the scientific view that we are on the edge of a mass extinction. For those interested, you can research the impact the extinction of the lowly Bee on human existence would be. @murray t turtle posted something earlier about the destruction of sparrows that led to a destructive infestation of grasshoppers. Its a fragile ecosystem that we all rely on.
All economics and all politics, i.e. all that is "us" and civilization depends on a functioning biosphere, to paraphrase Vaclav Smil: no biosphere, no us. Now, an argument could be made to move the thread to Science & Technology—it does not belong in Chit Chat. For my part, I've always just hung out "in the basement", in Politics (formerly Politics and Religion), and I'm not keen to start hopping around—I have my place. I could start a new thread, in Politics, with every post within explicitly stating the link between environmental decay and cultural/economic/political disorder. Or, I could post separate threads for every new news article and paper I come across, making the same link clear. Would that be your preference, Baron?
I suspect copy and paste is not the issue here, since it is the origination of most posts on Politics. As for "random", I am not aware of any posts I've made, except replies to others, that do not pertain to one of the nine planetary boundaries.
Okay, fair enough. The thread will become just a reference now, as I do not haunt that forum. My new posts on Politics will make the connections clear, as I mentioned above.
The UK's Royal Air Force (RAF) has now released footage from its low-level reconnaissance flight over the giant iceberg, A68a. The 4,200 sq km behemoth is crumbling – but the video footage also underscores the berg's great size.
