I'd be lying if I didn't say I was curious how alien atmospheric events will get. What if we get 200 mph hurricane that lasts over 400 yrs like the red spot of Jupiter? 100C barren wastelands not survivable w/o a suit? At least the poles will open up for habitability.

I have not yet reached believing in the (near term) extinction of humans, though there was apparently a time when h. sapiens' population was so low that just one more catastrophe would have wiped us, so I admit to the possibility. I'd like to say that in my 60s I won't live to see the world return to a dark age ruled by warlords, but these things can happen so fast, and I'm too damn healthy.

I'm not saying either event would wipe us out. After all, we lived w/a hole in the atmosphere thru most of my life

"In a few decades, we'll look back on 2023 as the calm before the storm, when life was still fairly normal. Our children may even remember this year with nostalgia, as a fading glimpse of a world they never got to know — one marked by relative stability rather than environmental chaos and catastrophic collapse. For all the horrors of this summer, we should perhaps take a moment to appreciate it, because this may be as good as it gets moving forward."

Think this summer was bad? It might be the best one you and I will ever see

Well this summer was too cool. Hopefully the upcoming ones will heat up.

For the last 10,000 years the temperature has warmed, the waters have receded and Mankind has thrived.
The open guess is when this process of warmer temperatures goes to far and begins to hurt mankind....
Its like trying to call a top in the market...hard to do

I am sure the neanderthals should have been as scared as people are today......They got wiped out....But that led to Homo Sapiens......Once we get wiped out the next evolution of humans should be better
