This, and your previous, are why we are so fucked. The Predicament (predicaments, unlike problems, do not have solutions), is we can't keep burning fossil fuels, and we can't stop either.
Agreed. What surprises me is why we don't look more towards nuclear power. I still don't understand the resistance on it. Nuclear plants aren't like 3 Mi Island anymore. They're far, far more modernized and safe. But nada. Zilch.
Partially, but mostly idiotic regulations based on 1970's technology. The return wouldn't take so long if the nuclear plant didn't take so long to build due to one hurdle after another put in place by the solar and wind fanatics, both of which will not supply enough energy, ever. Never, ever. We should be starting construction on 100+ nuke plants TODAY. Every day we wait puts us further behind the eight ball.
If government subsidies were applies on it as they were on solar or wind, it would seem we could get the ball rolling. So it goes back to "why"?
That's a fair point, but all investment requires some element of risk and the risk of doing nothing about this energy problem is infinitely greater. Safe, to a degree, is the wind and solar route, but that leaves us lacking enough supply. Fossil fuel isn't as dirty as it used to be,but is still a long-term disaster in the making. At this point in time nuclear is it and the powers that be best get to making it the order of the day.
