Two wrongs don't make a right. What's one got to do with the other? But, I am willing to compromise: Let's take the rapists and cut their heads off on MTV (on Saturday night in primetime). But let this crook do his 30 years. Being soft on crime is largely to blame for the mess this country is in. Edit: Actually it's 25 years, but who's counting, besides Ebbers?
I'm not sure if prison is the best place for this guy. Evil people rarely find the time to give back to society... I personally think he chased performance... like so many of us do with our trading. Albiet we did not end up losing 11 billion... I think you have to really take the value that people lost that they had no FREEDOM of their own to take out. Pensions, retirements... all the rest of us had the opportunity to pull out... some didn't so we now celebrate the crushing of future potiential giving of one man... just my 2 cents worth
25 years sounds good to me. I personally think anyone who sends spam should get 10 (people sending pornographic ads to 10 year olds definitely have nothing to add to society), so 25 is reasonable for Ebbers. I agree that prisoners are an underutilized resource. They should all be made to work in exchange for the tax money we use to feed and shelter them. Like in the movie "Catch Me If You Can". I think Ebbers would make a great SEC examiner
do drink at all... but bkk's idea is what sit well with me... people like bernie, or martha... sure they were trying to be smart and beat the system... maybe they should be forced to work for the other side... forced to do good. on the other hand tolerance for violent crimes or ANYTHING resembling a crime against a child should be treated in a much more 'violent' way than "send the rapist to jail 25 years" just an opinon.
Right, thanks to Ebbers and his competition against ATT you and millions of others have enjoyed the benefit of low, low phone rates. But since thousands of GREEDY RETARDS wanted to get rich on the back of Ebbers and MCI and the thing collapsed they're all happy to put him away for 30 years. The Tyco guy probably deserves it, I'm not so sure about this guy.
Actually, I'd rather see some of the Enron crew get a heavier sentence than Ebbers. They were shrewder business people than Ebbers (an ex-football or wrestling coach) and probably had more of a premeditated motive to injure people.
I agree with many of you guys... putting an otherwise smart businessman away for 30 years costs us even more money in tax dollars put him to work for the government... pay him next to nothing... but utilize his brains to make the prison system work better or SEC, or any government agency
