I eat healthy my whole life. Still the iron level in my blood is constantly low according to the blood testing results. Once a year or so i make an order with iron supplements, all the basic first aid meds on Canada Drugs and save a good amount of cash.
Interesting...since changing my diet my blood testing results have begun indicating a slight lack of iron as well, so my doctor put me on 65 mg (325 mg Ferrous Sulfate) of iron a day. He prescribed a generic version, but my system did not like it, so I use Nature Made and just pay for it myself rather than using my health insurance. (Eating stuff like beets and liver did not work for me.)
Blood doc recommended cooking on the old cast iron pans and Dutch Ovens to boost iron. He recommended something called “Wheat Hearts” or Cream of Wheat as a oatmeal change up for iron
I cooked all the time using a cast iron skillet when I had my own place, but I'm sort of an itinerant soul at the moment and am therefore not doing my own cooking. Too bad the doc didn't recommend Malt-O-Meal (which I love) instead of Cream of Wheat (which I can't stand). (I just checked the box, and it says that Malt-O-Meal has 60% of the daily recommended allowance of iron, or 10.8 mg. Since I always eat two servings, I guess this should help.)
Malt-O is the same as Cream of Wheat and the late “Wheat Hearts”. I added something like Wheat Hearts, they were discontinued twenty years ago. https://www.bobsredmill.com/wheat-farina.html
