    Greetings everyone,

We are in the middle of the earning season, and i was wondering about the exact time of the day those reports are released.
I mean, i know that some firms report right after market close (about 10 min later)
and some do so before market open.
My question is, how close to the opening? is that a standard for all firms?
I cant find details about this issue, i will be glad to get a wise tip.

    Thank you!

    • 1 minute after market closes in most cases. One exception I know of is AAPL.
    • The market reacts so fast after close it might even be less than a minute.
    • Before market earnings is rare, especially for tech.

The earnings can be release at any time during the session (i.e. Before Market Open or After Market Close). However, there is usually a conference call scheduled to discuss the earnings, so the company always releases the earnings before the scheduled conference call.

Contrary to what you may have read, it is not always true that the market reacts too fast for you to take advantage. Usually that is because the raw earnings numbers (profit and sales) are sometimes deceptive. For example the Netflix price may surge on the initial profit and sales number, but plunge later when the new subscribers number is released. You would have to learn what are the most important numbers for each different stock.

A good link that includes an ESTIMATE of when the earnings will be released:

  4. This statement does not appear to be true. In my (sourced from Zacks) earnings data table I show the following over the last two years:

    AMC 28198
    DMT 4625
    BMO 18842

AMC stands for After Market Close, BMO stands for Before Market Open, and DMT is during RTH. The entire available Zacks earnings history shows similar proportions.

  5. This statement is also false.

A snippet of earnings release times over the last two years:

    1558, 25
    1559, 24
    1600, 835
    1601, 2239
    1602, 499
    1603, 311
    1604, 151
    1605, 4565
    1606, 237
    1607, 178
    1608, 127
    1609, 112
    1610, 727
    1611, 140
    1612, 104
    1613, 94
    1614, 91
    1615, 2751
    1616, 292
    1617, 156

1601 corresponds to "one minute after market close." Not even close to a majority.

    • Who cares about Zacks?
    • I go by when the market reacts - and it is 4:01 PM EST in most cases.

Traditionally blue-chips have reported BMO, and techs AMC. But there are exceptions.
