DVD-R compatibility question

  1. I just got a new laptop (Travelmate 5720 Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz 2GB RAM, 160 GB HD, with XP Pro ) and so far happy with it, it was a good deal as well.

Only thing Acer does not give you a recovery disk, you have to do your own . Now I never burn dvd's so I go to the store and all those DVD -R packs have a warning on the back that says if it's not compatible it may destroy your drive
It then refers you to dvdhs.com which gives you no practical info on the issue. What's the deal ? I am pretty sure the 4.7 GB DVD-R General version 2.1 recording at 1-16 X speed I got are fine but I 'd rather be sure .

Laptop Optical Drive Type: 8x DVD SuperMulti (+/-RW) DL

I guess that you you have DVD burner on your computer. Then all must be fine.
If you are not cerain ask the consultants in the shop. They must consult you with this.
