Duel ISP

  1. Definitely dead, with no plans to revive it. Software was never released in any form. Great idea, just no follow-through.

Dual-WAN routers do the job reasonably well. In my experience price of the router is a good estimate of how well it works. The more expensive the Dual-WAN router, the better it works.

Off topic somewhat but there should be some software for whitelisting by ip address for windows. I've been told it's a simple project. There isn't any. There is plenty of stuff for whitelisting by email addresses or content, etc., but to set up a computer to be very secure for a very narrow focus, nada. I'd pay some reasonable coin for it if it ever shows up. Traders would be able to build a secure trading-only computer with great ease if they could type a few url's into a list and know that only their broker and data provider could access their computer...

+1 peplink. Compare all the rest and peplink won based on ease of use, functionality and good price point.

Thanks for all the replies. FWIW, I ended up with a Sonicwall TZ105. It should be here by Friday so hopefully I will no longer have to miss any more trading days do to loss of internet.

  5. FYI.

Best solution is two boxes with two routers and two separate everything including accounts. You can make one a dual-wan but the other should be used to hedge if/when things go awry.

Here's how it works. Everything's quiet. You go take a dump. While pinching the loaf power goes out. You come back. Start the process of troubleshooting. Finally after fixing said problem(s) come to find out your account is now down a significant amount.

2 boxes, 2 routers, 2 power sources, etc.

    just sayin....

That's pretty much what I have...2 boxes - I use 1 for trading other for Bloomberg and some other scanners, but both have all the software in case of a pc failure. I now have Comcast business class cable internet and uverse as a back up. I'm hoping that this new router will work so if 1 ISP goes down, I'm still good to go!

Yeah sure it works. Dual WAN router are pretty cool. I've tested the peplink by shutting off one of the ISP. The other connection continues to work. The one issue is that you may have to restart your trading application. Not sure why IB TWS can't seamlessly failover to the other connection. Some thing with uTorrent, if a torrent d/l is happening and one of the ISP stops, the torrent will fail and need to be restarted. In this case, the uTorrent application doesn't need to be restarted, just the torrent d/l.

Maybe some tech guru can explain it and propose a simple solution. Complete seamless failover would be awesome :D
