Based on experience, I prefer cable over DSL. Although DSL is alot faster, cable is much more reliable though for me.
Just the opposite experience here. Comcast cable is faster than Verizon DSL, but less reliable. Verizon DSL gives a rock solid connection with constant upload and download speeds. And that is with loop length at over 17,250 feet from the central office. Comcast cable gives a noisy connection with varying upload and download speeds. Verizon DSL easily wins over Comcast cable and is about half the price and with no monthly GB cap on downloads.
This site will provide a free (and excellent) speed test for your cable or DSL. http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/ I have TWC and get about 7mbps down on my wireless connection. Quotes and surfing seem as fast as ever. Even as fast as my landline computer. I do use Netgear's fastest router WNDR3700 and adapter WNDA3100v2 and Motorola's latest DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem SB6120. I also use Panasonic DEC wireless phones so there is no interference from cordless phones.
