Drug testing for welfare recipients in Utah just saved the taxpayers over $369,000 http://poorrichardsnews.com/
Sadly, the $369K number is the amount that Utah projected they saved from the people who dropped off of welfare rather than take a drug test. In statistical terms it the the dollar benefits figure associated with the number of people above the average monthly mean who dropped off the rolls. The reality is that the Utah program cost $1.5 Million to setup and $30,000 in direct operational costs. Does this mean I don't support the drug testing of welfare recipients? No. In order for other American taxpayers to support the welfare system and believe it has any integrity then it is important that taxpayers know that drug abusers are not receiving welfare money. Also, if I have to take a drug test every time I start a new contract as a banking IT contractor then welfare recipients should have to take a drug test to get their money.
