double standard bs, my thrd critical of blacks is deltd, but jew-bashing posts r fine

  1. Okay, I will take your word that people complain less about the bashing of one group (your example Jews) and complain more about bashing other groups.

My question is about the rules of conduct.

    It has been stated:

    victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age, or disability;

So if only a single individual complains that a thread which degrades Jews, or Muslims, or women, etc....that valid complaint (according to rules of conduct) would show that the post in question violates the rules of conduct, right?

If multiple complaints are registered because of a thread that degrades a different group, say blacks or white male Christian republicans, those complaints are equally valid because the post in question violates the rules of conduct, right?

So, what is the real rule of conduct? Anything goes, any bashing, any use of profanity, pornography, etc. as long as insufficient numbers of people complain?

Is a single complaint when there has been an actual violation of the rules of conduct, as the rules of conduct are stated sufficient to have some active moderation, or is there a different formula in play?

I am not saying any moderators are doing anything wrong, I am just asking for clarification. The previous post in feedback where this was discussed did a good job to show your thinking on how moderation is actually done, having less impact because of the stated rules, and more focus on the squeaky wheels when the wheels are in larger numbers, or the person/group under attack is a moderator, a vendor, etc. but that thread was recently deleted.

Perhaps you can make some definitive statement that we can all be referred to, a permanent post or a modification of the stated rules of conduct, just so that everyone fully understands what the rules really are...

It doesn't show anything. A complaint merely alerts us to a specific post or thread. We make the judgement ourselves as to whether or not there's been a violation.

    Yes.

Yes. But that's the way the world works.

As a matter of law, you're not supposed to go over 65 MPH on the typical highway, but we all do it. Now you can go 155 if you want, but you will likely end up getting busted because somebody will call the cops complaining. And your fine or punishment will be in light of the speed limit you were supposed to be abiding by.

Likewise, you can usually get away with posting moderate levels of profanity or insults. However, if you start posting racial hatred laced with one insult after the other, your post will be complained about and you'll eventually get busted by the ET traffic cops for violating the community speed limit, otherwise known as the member rules of conduct. :)

A single post is sufficient for active moderation, but action is not guaranteed. In other words, if somebody complains and it appears as if their complaint is borderline, we may wait to see if we receive any other complaints before doing anything.

  5. I agree with the original point of this thread...There is a blatant double standard on ET.

The politics and religion thread as well as chit-chat are routinely used as battlegrounds for anything and everything controversial.

The "Black People" thread was removed because as any non black person in this country knows, it's just short of illegal to say anything derogatory about blacks....but blacks can say whatever the hell they want about every other race because, well, they're black, and their ancestors were slaves 150 years ago so that entitles them to immunity from anything race related as long as they live in the U.S.A.

Just the fact that I'm writing this (even though it's backing the principle of the thread, not necessarily the subject) will make some people accuse me of being "racist against blacks".

It's part of living in America.

    Sad, but true. :(

  6. barron,

could this not also be described as ''selective enforcement''? have you been in CC &P/R forums lately?? you have fucking jews this, god damn kykes that...

i used NO nomenclature that is anywhere near as extreme as that stuff, in fact i didn't use any derogatory speach at all, i stated facts, my interpretation of those facts, and followed my opinions...i didn't use the ''N'' word, i didnt claim that blacks were genetically inferior, i , in a reasonably respectful manner, expressed my opinion...i didnt degrade anyone...i merely recieved criticism because of the controversial nature of the topic...

  7. c'mon... there's been thread after thread on "blacks this blacks that" and ppl have been able to express themselves without any deleting from the mods eg http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...78123&perpage=6&highlight=blacks&pagenumber=1 and same criticizing white american repubs etc no matter what zizzz says...

where have u guys seen thats its impossible to criticize such or such "group" in a broad sense on ET? its all about the manner... now i haven't seen the OP's initial thread... and there's by necessity a degree of subjectivity on how ET's rules of conduct apply...

to the OP: just retool a bit and restart another thread and you'll see...
