In 2019 it was a mere 18-25%. But since the Pandemic and esp. due to suffering from low wages and income and nowadays with the price of gas, they EAT all their meals taking 3% from each order and save on their grocery bill. The restaurants are now using the abs cheapest ingredients and oil, cold be even motor oil for them to survive they don't care about YOUR health. BEAR in full bloom getting worse. The workaround? cook at HOME. Eating out? forgeddddabout it! Yes and the drivers have no time to use the restroom so pee in a bottle. Wash their hands? Dream on!
,,Noone would buy EBooks" - Amazon critics in the early days ,,Prove me wrong. - Ok. People are now willing to pay $10 per subscription, once they will get used to it, extra 5 will mean nothing. Extra - %50" - P.Tudor.J having a conversation with one of his analysts before taking a stake in NFLX
Yeah, but Amazon built those huge ebook warehouses, stocking millions of ebooks. Also, Amazon almost never sold books profitably. Maybe if Doordash drivers throw in a BJ as an extra, the company's profit margin would improve a lot.
,,I remember a time, when i was standing with 6 warehouse workers & we were dreaming about a single fork lift truck" - Bezos
Sadly true. Nevertheless you would expect the 2 kinda going the same way. But since that is not the case, we both can be right, DASH goes below 10 while hugely profitable in the next few years!
I was in the city for a month and I noticed this too. And the menu prices are often higher too. I think the restaurants like it because they don’t have to manage the delivery people which was tricky because of demand. The delivery people like it because they have more work. We get screwed because all the cost gets passed onto us. I also noticed food has gotten insanely expensive since I lived there full time. Wife and I couldn’t eat for less than 80-100 at a neighborhood restaurant. With kids, it was closer to 200-250 (and my kids are small).
Real estate in NYC has gotten more expensive, has it not? Add to that staffing shortage and inflation, that's what you get. I doubt it has anything to do with food delivery. I notice that now you have kitchen-only restaurants which have no seating - having a seating area, waiters, registers and all that goes with it is expensive. Operating a compact kitchen that sends food out the back door is far cheaper. Seems many of these operate in areas that aren't suitable for restaurants, near industrial areas where real-estate is cheap as well. It's an industry in transformation. Next step is robotic delivery and then automating the cooking process, which is still somewhat far in the future.
The menu prices on the delivery apps are higher than if you order directly. I know there’s inflation. I am loving it everyday in my day job. In NYC it’s a lot higher in the food industry than in other areas. I think restaurants are taking advantage of demographic shifts and higher wealth creation in the city from Wall Street and influx of more tech workers.
