Look up the law yourself, and then look up what the penalty is for violation of said law. What ever the legal penalty is in that nation, I don't have a problem with it. PS. aren't you guys the same ones who bitch about illegal immigration? Shouldn't everyone within the jurisdiction of a sovereign nation be subject to that nations laws?
What happens if "they" win the war? Will you take them seriously then? I totally understand what you guys are trying to say. You don't like their religion. I get it. I'm just saying that this crap has happened, will happen, with all organized religions. The problem is not humanity, the problem is organized religion. Of course that would mean we have to take a good long hard look in the mirror. Not something most would do willingly.
BTW, Maybe those kids are just a bunch of evil bastards who didn't like homework. They could have planed this whole thing just to get the week off from school, Eh, ever think of that?!
Indeed. And the Taliban beheading/hanging/shooting women in soccer stadiums were also within their legal rights, were not they? We should all respect their laws and customs, don't we Chuck? Stupid, disrespectful brits, nice, tolerant, respectful Chuck.ells!!! PS in fact we do respect their right to have their laws and customs. We also respect our right to protest their actions, punish their actions within the bounds of our laws and we certainly have the right to call their laws and customs B-A-R-B-A-R-I-C and M-E-D-I-E-V-A-L.
Chuck the bottom line is that not one of the organized religions condone punishment for speaking aginst or "insulting" it execept Islam. Not just punishment but physical torture and death. When the networks have no prob depicting Jesus getting shit upon, but will not show an mage of Muhammed, something is seriously wrong. Obviously it shows a lot of insecurity to enact such harsh laws to punish one speaking out agianst a 1000 year old philosophy, what are they afraid of?
Actually, no. Islam in its modern fundamentalist expression is the most bloodthirsty by far. How many times do you hear of a Christian church condemning a young woman to death by hanging because she was flirting with a guy? How about Hindus? Jews? Bhuddists? With regard to the statement "It is their religious law in their own country, so what's your problem'? Ahhh, I am reminded of the good old days when the Disgusting Troll Z would post his moral relativism. The Moral Man: It is wrong, universally wrong, for a cleric to order the surgical breaking of a young musician's hands because he was playing Let It Be on a traditional instrument. The Disgusting Troll Z: No, it is defensible. That is their religious tradition and it must be respected and you are wrong to condemn it. The Moral Man: Actually, no. It is uncivilized and constitutes a breach of international law. The agreement that that act is wrong and must be abolished forever goes to the heart of what it means to be 'civilized' The Disgusting Hypocrite ZTroll: It is done in the name of God and is therefore permissible. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: Armed men in Khartoum waving swords and demanding the beheading of the English schoolteacher who allowed the kids to name the Teddy Bear Mohammed. Being reported on CBC right now, day 6 of her sentence of 15 days. The UK fucking well better get a rep down there to escort her out of the country.
How 'bout a moron like me? Fact is, people certainly were racked, tortured, eviscerated, drowned, mashed into pulps in strange french grinding machines, iron maidens, not a few hundred years ago, and many more executed since, under the "other" mainstream religions. They condoned it, absolutely, sponsored it-pogroms, massacres, right from the average person , not just the pope's or inquisitors. To simply state, "well, there not doing it now" is a little simplistic-im sure there must have been times where islamic societies looked at what passed for justice/rules of faith in europe, and thought, holy shit, there a bunch of barbarians. While it might be comforting to think this sort of thing is the result of rural, backward societies, its not always the case.
Acronym, first I'll say I enjoy reading your posts. This one though seems a rush job to try to make a point. There are a lot of things that were acceptable in history, that due to civil progression, are no longer practiced. The point I , along with other posters of this thread are making is that we are no longer in medieval times. This article shows that Islamic socities are not willing to evolve. Unfortunately if you dont evolve you become extinct.
