  1. They take away from failing or mediocre public schools and move funds toward better options. This concept is a bit too American for you. The dem party loves warehousing students for decades in failing schools and rewarding their union teachers for it.

  3. Public schools are already free...no voucher needed. If you want to go to a private school then you are free to do so anytime you want with your own money.

You cannot use Chicago and NYC to generalize the whole country's current state of education. Schools in suburbs and rural communities still are quite excellent and as 2024 election proved more people live in the suburbs and rural communities than in and around cities.

A better plan is overhaul D of E to focus more attention on failing schools in cities where the real problems lie and those kids cannot afford to go anywhere else. In D.C. which has some shitty schools, the charter school system has helped quite a bit and they are mostly free and open to all residents via a wait list system.

Vouchers across the board will be used by wealthy and middle class families in the suburbs to flock to private schools on taxpayers dime. Why? Inner city kids cannot afford to leave the cities so focus reform there and you will see a big difference. Lack of supplies, falling infrastructure and unsafe environments can be addressed but neither party has really tried. They just wave their hands or tell the better off kids to leave by vouchers as a proposal. Vouchers don't fix the problem and neither does eliminating DoE.

Failing schools in Chicago are a fraction of the education system nationwide. Your constant reference to Chicago indicates you are willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

  4. There are over 45 million kids in public school system and about 359,000 kids in Chicago public school system. Add a few cities and maybe 2 - 3 million students in inner cities....

It's a small % that can be addressed rather than throw money at the other 49 million who don't need it.

1/3 of American students are behind a grade level so the problem is not Chicago and inner city kids. The public and private system overall has 50 different standards and no cohesion. Every country has a national plan while in the U.S. each state sets is own plan, curriculum and spending. If you have kids then see what happens when you move from 1 state to another.

Vouchers is a gop buzzword to get people excited but the problem is across the country and is not fixed giving rich people money to go private. It is not the fault of teacher unions because we can get around that by firing teachers whose students are failing but we become pussies in that area.

  5. You are emblematic of the reason why Trump just slaughtered your party.

Many of the education issues I speak to exist foremost on the dem plantations. But, without fail, you and other lefties rise to say that everything is fine. "It's just Chicago." Otherwise the problem does not rise to the level of needing major change.

You have lost the working class, you are losing minorities in droves...just keep being stuck on stupid. Entire generations of kids are being lost to warehousing schools where the teachers keep getting paid and unions keep thriving.

We would expect no less. Maybe run Tim Walz for 2028. Works for me.

Meanwhile, 36% of Georgia students below reading grade level, New Jersey 57%, Pennsylvania 50% etc, etc. And if you are trapped in a shit school right now. Believe me, you are trapped and damaged for life unless you overcome it yourself- in spite of the school. Fucking places are dangerous too and and you learn lots of negative social behaviors there.

Yeh. You are a Tim Walz guy.

Most of the taxpayer voucher money in red states are moved to WORSE options than public schools. Over 80% of the private schools and homeschooling in these states greatly underperform public schools — based on what limited data is available. Most of the red state private schools and homeschoolers do not report educational information or take standardized tests.

Basically school vouchers in red states are an extreme waste of taxpayer money.

However we have already seen that MAGA Republicans don’t give two flips about educating children. Trump “loves the uneducated”. Guess the concept of having well educated children being beneficial to America is too far of a reach for the MAGA crowd. This is especially sad in view that in the late 1800s the Republican Party was the leading proponent of free tax-payer paid public education for all.

Since you won’t address the facts about the complete failure of vouchers to provide minimal education at many private schools and simply attack the democrats for warehousing students in public schools — there really no case for successfully educating you.

Bottom line: Vouchers drastically fail in red states to effectively educate students. They are a waste of taxpayer money. Much better proven alternatives such as non-profit Charter schools are available. Case Closed.

White parents are forced to send their children to private schools in areas where blacks make up the majority of public school students, for their own safety, and vouchers help them pick up the cost.

So sending you child to a private school which does no standardized testing and does not even teach some core subject areas is somehow an improvement?

Yeah… can you provide an example of white parents refusing to send their children to public schools because they fear the black students. This smacks of the 1960s where white parents refused to send their children to integrated schools based on false claims that blacks would beat up & rape the white students. Of course, this landed up not being true.

But this mindset perfectly aligns with the conservative talking points that public schools are only for white trash and blacks — and that decent whites should go to private Christian schools.
