The one in Queens, I brought that up instead of Sept. 11th because the Queens crash was much closer to the opening than the first crash on the 11th
Only 3 fills on Friday. 2 longs, 1 short, Still made a piddling bit net. Also found an apparent bug in the "Raven" auto exiter. You sure as hell can't go to sleep and rely solely on the computer.
Wow, what fun... Echo's quote servers went down at the open.. yet again.... So the autoexiter doesn't work because it is not getting quotes. I fairly quickly realize things are fouled up and started cancelling all open orders and exiting my fills at MKT. Got 6 fills total, 5 smallish winners and one $.10 loser. Still made over $100 net. I would rather be lucky than good. Yeah, this automation stuff just turns your PC into an ATM.. Just don't look away, it could be hazardous to your wealth.
Tony, do you kill losers manually or let the automation take care of it? I started experimenting with using automation to exit my fills (both winners and losers) back in May and found that I was getting big slippage on my losers. I quit doing automated stops and found that killing losers manually is much quicker. I like the automation for winners though-saves time on having to enter a bunch of orders while you are monitoring your fills/losers. Also, anybody have the guts to do LXK today (I didn't )
I fought back the urge to cancel all three of my late openers: LXK, MMM, and MRK. I'm happy I kept all three. LXK was the best, a .70 winner.
I generally let "Raven" get me out of winners. I also have it set pretty tight to get me out of losers, but I watch it like a hawk. Part of the exit trigger is not working correctly, so I do exit some positions manually. But I have to be careful not to exit manually and also get a "Raven" exit. At this time, it does not know if I have already put out an order or not. They are supposed to fix that shortcoming in the near future. Of course the specialists take their sweet time filling, and they never let you cancel a MKT order. I would prefer letting the autoexiter do it all, but can't do that right now. I am hopeful that we have it all fixed fairly soon.
I've found fighting that usrge to be generally profitable as long as I get out the instant they go against me. Good job!
Tony, how are you setting your stops on Raven? I'm still entering them manually because I have a couple of stocks with large share positions that I keep tighter stops on than those with fewer shares. The quote issue didn't seem to effect me today since the stops are triggered off of time/sales and not the level 2 quote data. I learned my lesson about time/sales being down last week and what it did to my stops. If time/sales go down do not use stops.
I believe time and sales were effected today. Wherever Raven gets it's information was screwed up. I had total nonsense on my P/L minder. We were getting sporadic information, not good enough to stay in the market. I am setting a trailing stop. It is supposed to get me out if it reverses against me by $.05 or $.07 or whatever I happen to set it that day. I also try to have it exit when my unrealized P/L goes negative by $20.00. This feature does not seem to be working correctly at this time, so I have to manually get out if this happens. I intend to have e-signal running from now on as a second source of market information.
