Question.............. Did anyone get PPG today (Monday)? If so, how did you play it? Did you hold through that terrific shakeout? Just wondering?
Nice day but not too many fills compared to normal and my buy envelope is set .8% Had two shorts RTN and STM covered them fast and canceled all short orders when futures kept making new highs Had only 5 longs but did well with them.. Net over a point Robert
Yipes, got stuck a bit this morning.... -$1100 I'm heading to SoCal today, and will trade in one of our most successful "opening only" offices tomorrow...try to add to my understanding of how well these guys are doing. There is always something to learn in this business, and if we get complacent, then we will get "broke." Everyone should keep this in mind..... Don
did ok today, missed a print that cost me a quarter, but managed 45 cents in another, which is about what i netted. tried to hold on to a couple of other longs, but they just wouldn't go, and are now actually down on the day. of course, as soon as i cut my list in half, would've been 5 for 6 on those that i dropped just two sessions ago, while netting conservatively a point. a little frustrating to say the least.
Only one long today, and unfortunatley, 6 shorts. Managed them the best I could, but still booked the worst day for openings for the year, net -$1.72 You don't often get a run up like that after such a strong gap up open, so I guess it's just a matter of playing the odds and sometimes you lose.
no profitable trades on the open. It is the first time ever that every trade was a loser for me. I only wish i could say that i managed it well, but i made every mistake i could . A good day or week will make up for it and i learned a lot today. The good days are easy with the openings just about anyone that can make decisions fast can do well. Its the losing days that require skill and i hope i made a big step forward today. Good luck
...and I was disappointed that my OPG's only broke even today. From the looks of it I should consider myself lucky. CL and MAY were great, but TXN got me
i have found that a catalyst can severely hamper the effectiveness of certain stocks, for usually a week or two. you get filled on the same side almost every day, and you get hurt. it is often triggered by a significant news event. a few examples: SBC, getting filled several times in the past two weeks - all shorts and all losers, until a short ended the route a a day or two ago. this after there was significant news in verizon. i noticed the same on NKE a while back after it reported earnings. kept getting short, kept getting hurt. JPM was bad the past two weeks, and there has been significant news there. TXN has been horrible the last three or four fills or so (i don't have the spreadsheet in front of me), but it was great before that. this is somewhat of an exception, as i'm not aware of any recent news WYE ...was really bad a while back, you kept getting filled on the long side. this, after some negative developements. it's been good lately. i don't trade it though. there are more.... i just completed my first month with this, so with the exception of the actual news day, i wanted to follow the rules. but now, if there is a significant event, i'm going to take the stock off until there is a profitable trade or two in it.
Funny how this works, I made money on sbc twice this month with no losers. I have several times considered removing stocks with news from the opening but have not yet. The news stocks tend to be big moves. So every time i have a loser i think about removing stock that reported earnings or had news. Right now i just try to cut my loses and hope to ride the big winners. I made a ton on JNJ a few weeks ago. So these winners kept me happy, but i plan to reevaluate this strategy freaquently. My big losers today were GE and C.
