I've laid off the OO strategy from July. Going back and reading the posts, it looks like it has remained fairly unprofitable on a "risk" and "time spent" basis. I was going to start it up again, but I don't see it consistantly working for anyone. Maybe the OO strategy has seen its day and is no longer a profitable way to spend time and take on risk. Am I correct or is it still a viable way to trade?
2 fills / 4000 shares / net flat 1 long / 1 short / +416.00 - 1.1 / + .4% blocked 6 of 87 good band for the buck today...
This has been debated about 100 times already...sometimes they work better than others & some people do better than others. If you make money overall great, if not, don't do it. IMHO & experience it is a winning strategy overall. Anyway....1 fill long PG for a 2 cent loss. Unusual, that I got filled on PG 3 days out of the last 4 for about B/E overall. Even though I didn't make money, what I like about PG is that usually he works & even when he doesn't you have a chance to get out without a huge loss....you never really get killed on it, that's why I keep it on my list.
1 long loser -150. Whether OPGs are worth the effort/risk I think is an individual thing, depending on one's style and scale. It's a small edge for me, one that requires varying levels of finesse to make money, but still worth the effort. I sat out August and early September after a poor mid June through July, but it turns out I would have been better off keeping at it. It's definitely not something you can win at blindfolded, and not easy by any means. You have to know how your stocks behave and quickly quit playing the ones that are not making money for you. I do it on a pretty small scale compared to most others, so I'm sure they can offer better insights than I.
