Trump 'Deliberately Stoking' Violence, Courting QAnon, Professor Says
    By Andrew Stanton On 9/18/22
    https://www.newsweek.com/trump-deliberately-stoking-violence-courting-qanon-professor-says-1744011

Former President Donald Trump is deliberately stoking violence and courting believers of QAnon, a far-right conspiracy theory, University of Chicago professor Robert Pape said on Sunday.

Trump delivered a speech at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, Saturday night. Observers noticed that background music playing throughout the speech sounded similar to a 2020 song, "WWG1WGA," a reference to the QAnon slogan "where we go one we go all." Some QAnon influencers took the music to be a signal in support of their theory, as Trump has made a flurry of posts appearing to call out to its believers in recent weeks.

QAnon followers believe Trump will eventually seize power in the country and arrest—and potentially execute—Democrats, celebrities and other influential figures for being part of a "cabal" of Satanic cannibalistic pedophiles. The far-fetched theory has been widely debunked and is not backed up by any credible evidence.

Pape warned Trump is intentionally reaching out to QAnon supporters—describing the situation as "threatening" and "extremely disturbing" during an appearance on CBS News' Face the Nation.

"The former president is willing to court, not just supporters of his, but those who support violence for his goals—number one of which is being restored to the White House," said Pape, a political science professor who specializes in international security affairs.

Pape added that it is "clear" that Trump, one of the leading conservative figures across the United States, is aware of what QAnon entails and that his signals to its supporters could have violent repercussions in future elections. He also warned that his research indicates 13 million Americans "support the use of force to restore Donald Trump to the presidency."

"The problem that we face is that over and over in tweets by the former president, he is deliberately stoking not just the fires of anger giving him political support, but the fires that are leading to that violence," he said. "That is really the heart of our problem that we face as a threat to democracy. Because if it's just a political threat, well then we can have elections. But once it's not just denying an election, but using violence as a response to election denial, then we're in a new game."

Trump's Truth Social Posts Call Out to QAnon
The ex-president has made several Truth Social posts referring to the conspiracy theory. Last Tuesday, he reposted a photo of himself alongside the words "The Storm is Coming" and a QAnon pin. QAnon followers refer to this by saying Trump will allegedly retake power and try his opponents as the "storm." The post was one of the most direct references the former president has made to the conspiracy theory.

One image Trump shared in August featured the text: "The deep state whispered to president Trump 'You cannot withstand the storm.' The President whispered back, 'I am the storm.'" Another post, which has since been deleted, shared a link to a QAnon website.

Former FBI assistant director says Trump is getting 'increasingly cornered' and that his embrace of QAnon is the 'last act of a desperate man'

    • Former FBI official Frank Figliuzzi said Trump is drawn to QAnon like a moth to a flame.
    • Figliuzzi said Trump is embracing the movement because he feels "increasingly cornered."
    • Figliuzzi warned that violence could ensue if the QAnon movement felt threats to its leader.

A former FBI official said former President Donald Trump is likely feeling cornered and embracing the QAnon movement out of desperation.

Frank Figliuzzi, a former FBI assistant director, was weighing in on Trump's links to the QAnon movement during a Monday appearance on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House." Host Nicolle Wallace asked Figliuzzi if he thinks Trump knows just how dangerous the movement is to the US.

"Oh, not only do I think he knows it, but I think that's what attracts him to this. It's like a moth to the flame," Figliuzzi said.

"And the thing is, he knows that he's increasingly cornered," Figliuzzi added. "He's in trouble on so many legal fronts, even criminal fronts now, that this is, kind of, the almost last act of a desperate man."

Figliuzzi referenced Trump's rally in Youngstown, Ohio, where a QAnon song played during Trump's speech. During the rally, Trump's supporters were seen pointing their fingers to the sky in a strange, one-finger salute, which experts say might have been a nod to the movement's slogan, "where we go one we go all."

While the stadium in Ohio was not fully filled, and thus a sign that Trump may be losing support from his base, Figliuzzi said there's still a significant threat from Trump and the QAnon movement.

"What is extremely dangerous based on past histories of cults, is that as they come near the end, as the leader is threatened, they get more and more dangerous," Figliuzzi said. "And they do something cult experts call 'forcing the end.'"

This could happen if the movement's leader "calls for the violence" or is "taken out," Figliuzzi said.

"The members take a step up and force the ending — whatever that could be," Figliuzzi said. "That's what concerns me and we've learned from January 6, it only takes a small number of people to do that."

The Trump rally in Ohio is just one of many recent instances in which the former president appeared to embrace QAnon — a movement that claims without basis that Trump is fighting a deep-state cabal of pedophiles. In a stream of messages after the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago, Trump shared over a dozen posts on his Truth Social account, some of which referenced QAnon and contained baseless conspiracy theories about the FBI. Other posts by the former president on the Truth Social platform in September included a reposted image of himself sporting a "Q" lapel pin, along with the movement's "where we go one we go all" slogan.

Figliuzzi and a representative at Trump's post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Trump shares Truth Social photo declaring himself second only to Jesus
Unlike the late John Lennon, Mr Trump does not claim to be ‘more popular than Jesus’

    Andrew Feinberg 11 hours ago
    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...donald-trump-truth-social-jesus-b2174159.html

Former president Donald Trump on Friday re-shared a social media post in which he was declared to be “second” only to the man Christians believe to have been the son of God.

Using his own Truth Social platform (he remains banned from Twitter and Facebook), Mr Trump “re-truthed” a post by another Truth Social user which read: “Jesus is the Greatest. President @realDonaldTrump is the second greatest”.

    (Unknown)

The admission that he would be “second” behind anyone is a notable example of humility from the twice-impeached ex-president, who frequently boasts of being the greatest chief executive in American history and describes his own accomplishments using similar superlatives.

The former president has been on a tear on Truth Social in recent days, posting furiously after New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a massive fraud lawsuit against him, three of his adult children and his company.

J6 'truth' rally at Capitol flops: report

Supporters of Donald Trump failed to draw a crowd for a Saturday rally seeking to rewrite Donald Trump's coup attempt ahead of Wednesday's hearing by the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Forbes used the headline, "Pro-Trump 'Truth’ Rally Fizzles—Draws Nearly As Many Counter-Protesters." The Daily Beast headline was "Jan. 6 ‘Truth’ Rally at Capitol Fails Spectacularly."

"When the far-right blog The Gateway Pundit said a Jan. 6 Capitol rioter rally on Saturday afternoon would be the 'biggest to date,' crowds were expected. But instead of big crowds, the “Truth Rally” attracted around the same number of counter-protesters as rally attendees—a few dozen, at best," Zachary Petrizzo reported for The Beast.

One counter-protester shouted, “Trump is a loser, a little baby loser."

He said the "loudest applause line today at this 1/6 Truth Rally was for a woman giving the URL for a site where you can buy 'Abolish the FBI' tee shirts."

This lot is not going to make America Great Again..........guaranteed.

I guess even Trump's most fervent fans don't wear red MAGA hats anymore. What's up with that.
