The primary reason people watch sports is as an escape. They don't want to be reminded of work, politics, unrest, or society's ills while watching sports -- -they want to get away from it all. This is why this "social justice" trend in sports will not go over well... especially in college sports where team are dependent on funding from boosters -- especially in an era with empty stadiums and limited televised games.
Once the game starts no one watching cares about politics even if the NBA has phrases on their backs......after a few days you don't even pay attention to it anymore because this is playoff basketball. Thte flip side to it is that people watch sports to "forget" but they often do forget about the real issues out there and do nothing about it... But if it is not your cup of todayit is pretty easy to ignore and focus on what happens after the clock starts.
If you ask me “do black lives matter”? My answer would be, “of course, yes.” But then I’d add “but all lives matter, black, brown, yellow, white....the color of one’s skin isn’t part of the equation. The problem in today’s socially driven narrative, the first question demands a stand alone affirmation and tribute, to deny or neutrality on the subject is punishable. The second, acknowledging the fact that “all” lives matter equally, is deemed racist. BLM and it’s unwavering demand that everyone Kowtow to the Black Lives Matter mantra has become a form of Corporate and Public extortion. The vast majority of people would agree there’s still room for improvement and sympathize for those true victims of racism but the vast majority of people are innocent of the problems the BLM movement represents but are told they are the cause and are targeted by BLM followers. Radical Government changes throughout history have usually been accomplished via violence, think revolutions, Bolshevik, Chinese Liberation, French et al. Radical social changes are better accomplished via non-violent means, think Gandhi. MLK was an advocate of non-violent social resistance. While the BLM movement may maintain it’s verbal “social justice” narrative, it’s actions have been hijacked by the alt-left and are anti-American, violent, divisive, intolerant, vengeful and racist. In essence the BLM has become the very thing it despises. Being forced to affirm such is the problem, BLM would be better by winning the hearts, not burning it’s cities. Time to heal this country. #AllLivesAreEqual
Have not missed the NBA, NFL and now MLB since, I stopped watching it. Will continue to boycott the corporate sponsors because without them, all these BS antics by these millionaire jocks would be a thing of the past. They enable these jocks, like Lebron James to act up by supporting the leagues with their advertising dollars.
Well if All Lives Are Equal then we would not run into this problem... but seriously I just watch the games, no one is shoving it down my throat just because some players have it on their jersey... You are equating the BLM movements in cities and their extremist wings to some players putting a message on their shirt...
