At the moment, I don’t have any income apart from interest. I’ve been completely honest with her, and told her that her future might very well be brighter with someone younger or with better prospects for continued success.
I once had an argument with Cliff Asness. I politely pointed out that Renaissance’s returns are publicly known (as are the record of Stanley Druckenmiller, Bill Ackman, Buffett etc.), and asked why AQR wouldn't share the record of its flagship fund unless I gave them USD 100 million. He exploded—called me stupid and ignorant—arguing that Medallion’s results are capital constrained and thus irrelevant. My view is that what Renaissance has achieved far exceeds AQR’s track record or any other track record for that matter despite the capital constraint. I’m not convinced AQR as a whole has outperformed, i.e. I am not sure whether they have created any value for their investors in total. Asness, a billionaire, has made a lot of value for himself though.
I paid for her while she was studying for her master. Now she makes her own money. You can say I have taken away the card a long time ago. She may have some father issues though...
I gave her an engagement ring. She herself has suggested a prenup. But yes probably not if I die... But isn't that kind of fair? Trading income - if there will be anything left by that time - will not help me in the afterlife.
