  1. No... sorry..... I have detailed economic history to describe Japanese trade practices and U.S.-Japanese trade relations (part of it based on some time assisting at the US Trade Representative's office as well as working on U.S. - Japanese trade issues). Also have done research on Reagan, Bush and Clinton signed trade deals and their outcomes and what actually brought about change to small extent in Japan. Facts based on historical record. China is still a young capitalist/old communist country, a vague deal will not change that.

You still only post an article with opinion. You are entitled to your opinion that Trump got some major trade deal signed that will change everything.

You are not entitled to ignore the facts that U.S. taxpayers paid billions in tariffs and billions in government aid to farmers. So much for fiscal responsibility when it comes out of my pocket to make him look good.

I read the agreement and it blanket puts down requirements for protections and rights that already existed under GATT and WTO Agreements in the past but were never enforceable. You think now magic occurred?

Well, that would be up to the Chinese. I have friends in the manufacturing business. They (not me or my opinion) have stated that companies that have left China are never coming back. China has lost a key competitive edge. That is clear to anyone not suffering from TDS.

I too have friends in the industry that say the complete opposite. And you can take my word for it because I have more posts.

  4. What you said is irrelevant and off topic to the point I made I believe.

In fact you backhanded agreed with me by saying it is up to the Chinese....so the bullshit trade agreement is useless because if China does not want to abide by it they won't... and they won't.

Oh I also have business with manufacturing in china and what has often happened is either Chinese companies have moved manufacturing to Vietnam or Malaysia or some other cheaper country or simply don't care because their Made in China exports are still yuuuuge. While China still does not compete with Korea and Japan on electronics and cell phones, the industrial sector is still pretty big and they don't really give a shit to buy Deere tractors (Komatsu is closer and cheaper) or American cars (need I address this) or even soybean oil (palm oil nearby in Indonesia and Malaysia is readily available).

  5. Who would have known? Not only an expert in foreign trade but also a Chelsea follower.

Ok, Mr 85, please tell us in detail how you would have gone about changing China's unfair trade practices, the no other president, country, or organization, was able to do in more than 30 years.

    I am all ears.

  7. I already answered your question, only China can change China and internal restructuring and reforms have not happened yet. So before many start popping champagne over some vague trade deal it is better to learn the facts and history first. I know many people simply follow the media and cry how wonderful we have a trade deal.... we had trade deals before, Trump did not invent this... we had GATT....we had WTO....several rounds....etc....

China will stop subsidizing its industries when the U.S. stops subsidizing its industries and neither will happen. So let's not be a naive population on this issue as the media wants.

And Chelsea better sign an attacking MF or the rest of the season could see us slip out of 4th place.

  8. As expected, TDS'rs are great at bitching and moaning, but when asked how they would go about doing something better than Trump, there is eerie silence..

I will take Trump's approach to China until someone shows me a better alternative.(will never happen)

    GL with Chelsea.

  9. Nice deflection but I have criticized how all Presidents have handled trade issues rather than accept it all blindly and be fooled by the stories the media fed you. Many praise a deal signed by Trump but criticize a deal signed by Obama so that is hypocritical. I am consistent.

This is how your President handled China:

In a meeting last week, President Trump gave the green light to begin approving the licenses, which will allow a select few American companies to bypass a ban his administration placed on Huawei this year.

I would never have given Huawei ANYTHING - that is my first recommendation. Trump caved to China. WEAKNESS.

I would have had a meeting with several countries and develop a coordinated plan to address China's barriers to market entry. What did Trump do? Antagonize Germany and France and other EU nations. If several countries started pushing back on China then real reforms could have been done but Trump just ran like a bull in a china shop. He also alienated many Latin American countries who China is now courting heavily and entering into trade deals to buy products from them in exchange for more exports from china. China is trying to show they don't need us if we decide to play rough.

Tariffs were the wrong first choice because the importer pays the tariffs. You need to hit China where it hurts, in the international markets. Start working with Southeast Asia and Latin American countries to develop new industrial and production centers. the best way to hit China is to show you do not necessarily need them for cheaply made shit. When manufacturing moves offshore then the country will make reforms. Same thing happened in Japan to a small degree. U.S. still sits on its ass.

Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and many other countries in ASEAN also wish to compete better with China. We never reached to work with them in new trade deals or MFN status policies.

US should focus on being more proactive in APEC.

If China will not protect IP rights, then simply ban music/software/clothing and anything else they find violates IP rights of others. we don't need cheap knock offs from China.

US should work with the WTO to enforce what China agreed to since the Uruguay Rounds which goes back more than 20 years.

U.S. should stop the fantasy of bringing back manufacturing and production to the U.S., we are too expensive and cannot compete. Look to make deals with non-China countries to redirect offshoring to those countries and away from China. Strike trade deals with ASEAN and APEC countries to give incentives for production to go to those countries and export back to the U.S. to marginalize China. This is what a great deal maker would do, not Trump.

So many ways to address this combined efforts working with other nations but that is not Trump's style and has not been pushed enough by others.

But bottom line the way to deal with China is marginalize them and work with other partners. Trump does not play well with others and handles all issues unilaterally or bullies Germany to comply with our policy.

I could go on and on but it would bore you and you would come up with another deflection how great a vague trade agreement is.

  10. Perhaps becuase Obama's deal ALL sucked? Could that be?

Prices on average went up 3% for US buyers, that is not a big deal and the economy shrugged if off without a hitch. For the US it is much better to have individual deals with each country that banding together with other countries to take on China. Ultimately we are the buyers, why give our bargaining power away?

I still like Trump's deal better, but good try.
