this confirms how unsettled the science is. this article first spoke of warming... but then lets the truth out of the bag.

    its really unknown.

There is also a possibility that adding more water vapor to the atmosphere could produce a negative feedback effect. This could happen if more water vapor leads to more cloud formation. Clouds reflect sunlight and reduce the amount of energy that reaches the Earth’s surface to warm it. If the amount of solar warming decreases, then the temperature of the Earth would decrease. In that case, the effect of adding more water vapor would be cooling rather than warming. But cloud cover does mean more condensed water in the atmosphere, making for a stronger greenhouse effect than non-condensed water vapor alone – it is warmer on a cloudy winter day than on a clear one. Thus the possible positive and negative feedbacks associated with increased water vapor and cloud formation can cancel one another out and complicate matters. The actual balance between them is an active area of climate science research.

In my question, what did I say about the other climate variables?

    Lol.

On a serious note, I was just reading DT's plan to build the wall and, more importantly, how it will be paid for. The guy's a loon.

The situation you are referencing involved a large bank letting go Canadian citizens and replacing them with Indian contractors who earned less than half the money. I will note that this is not illegal in Canada, but citizens questioned the ethics of contractor hiring at the bank.

This is no different than the H1-B Visa situation in the U.S. where companies are firing IT workers who are U.S. citizens and replacing them with cheap Indian contractors. There are many people (including myself) who question this practice in the U.S. - the original intent of H1-B Visas was to bring highly skilled people to the U.S. who had to be attracted with higher than average salaries. In the early part of my career we were always thrilled when we heard we were getting some H1-B Visa guy on the team - it meant that the company was paying a lot of money for guy who was an IT / programming rock star. Now an H1-B Visa on your team usually means that the company found a cheap programmer from overseas who is is basically an endured servant who works long hours because otherwise they would be fired & shipped home.

The situation described above is a very different than high end IT. My billing rate is over six times than the average Canadian IT salary plus they have to fly me up and pay hotel & food each week. It would be much better for the bank to find a local person at a significantly lower rate if they can, this is now year 4 of me working in Canada.

This being said... Toronto is a great city to work in if you have to travel somewhere each week. The downtown is very walkable, lots of good food (I rarely have time), many events (wish I had time), low crime and friendly diverse population. I enjoy this location better than previous IT banking stints in New York, London, Leeds/Bradford, and Frankfurt.

You are a Troubleshooter. Congrats on having attained mastery of your field. Sounds like you are there to fix a problem and not do tourist stuff.

I've heard Toronto is pretty good although damned cold. Personally I like big cities if I have somewhere else to keep all my stuff lol.
