So -- from you own description --basically the schools in North York and the Toronto area are segregated. The poor minority kids go to the under-performing schools, and the wealthy white & Asian kids go to the over-performing schools. Of course, I live in the county in the United States with the smallest white-black educational achievement gap. Wake County is 20% black in demographics. Why don't you read some more see how we outperform for all races. Maybe North York can learn a significant lesson from our success. In Wake County, poor zip codes don't equal poor achievement Wake County's schools break shackles of neighborhood segregation http://www.ifajs.org/blackwhitegap/wakecounty.html
I would suggest to you that US schools in general could learn a lot more from Wake Country then North York could. There are dynamics in play here you aren't factoring in. Problems in Canada with our social systems get more air time because we have less of them and the general populace cares more about these issues then many Americans do. While our school standards in poorer neighborhoods may not be ideal, they exceed the standards in many US cities. You can be proud of your "success" but you are barking up the wrong tree thinking you need to address problems in North York. Just like health care, when you perpetually argue about the weaknesses in our system but ignore the strengths. In the end, it's not worth the effort to argue. You get the education system and health care you asked for, and we get ours. My kids excelled through school and I don't work in education; it's past the time I really care much about this anymore. You can say our nation has issues, but you know what, I prefer the issues we have at the moment then the issues the US has. And hence I choose to live here, and you choose to live there.
"This brings us to the curious notion that diversity is a strength, which it obviously is not. Diversity is, in fact, the cause of most of the world’s troubles. If you doubt that diversity is a great evil, consider relations between: Tamils and Sinhalese in Sri Lanka; Tutsis and Hutus in Burundi; Protestants and Catholics in Ireland; Israelis and Arabs in Palestine; blacks, whites, and browns in the United States; Anglophones and Francophones in Canada; Sunnis and Shias everywhere; Chinese and Indonesians in Indonesia; Chinese and Malays in Malaysia; Muslims and Hindus in India; blacks and whites in South Africa; Jews and everybody else everywhere; Spaniards and Basques in Spain; Spaniards and Catalans; Turks and Kurds; to name a few. Then consider the proportion of riots, crime, looting, arson, lynchings, racial attacks, complaints of discrimination, ill will, court cases, and legislation that would have been avoided in America over the years since 1600 had there been only one race in the country. Thus sensible social policy should always be to keep different groups apart. Usually, it is not that either of two warring groups is evil, but only that they are different. It is enough."-Lewrockwell.com
