I can't believe people trying to justify this.

The title of this thread says it all.

    ITs not worth $19B

Do you know how many free messaging services are available for download, most people use them for 3 reasons

    1. The service fees for international texts are through the roof and its 2014

    2. Group messaging

    3. People who have limited texts in their monthly plan (500 or 1000)

Aside from that there is no reason to be using it...most people I know use the messaging apps for international texts when family or friends are over seas.

So there you have it, a free service that has no ads selling for $19B

    yep

Any 17 year old programmer could write code and develop an app like whatsapp

exactly, if there wasnt trillions of dollars running through the system thanks to BUBBLE ben bernanke FB ipo would have never existed as well whatsapp selling for an inflated price of $19B....

  5. Is this theory correct: If there is no growth in FB users, the stock could get hit with a correction. Since a 40% correction could clip $80B, could $19B be viewed as a put against the correction? A put for $80 billion should priced at about $30B. If Whatsapp can keep traffic growing for 2 years or more, then it would be a good price assuming traffic is of the same value as past FB traffic. At the end of the day, when earnings would start slowing/going down, traffic becomes less relevant,a nd the stock going reflect it.

    FB's projected cap is absurd.

Other news from 5 years down the road when Dogchat nets $100B...a movie comes out that redefines art as we know it

If you think 19 Billion (3 billion more then the FB IPO raised....) for Whatsapp is a "good deal", you're a special kind of stupid.

In 12 months, some new instant messenging hit will emerge, stealing customers from whatsapp. And 6 months after that, another one will pop up taking customers from both. Its a fad market driven by the transient whims of vapid teens. What should Zucky do? Shell out 20 Billion each time a new popular app comes out that captures a demographic he cant? Icq, yahoo, msn, bbm...all once hugely popular instant messaging clients that fizzeled out after the next big thing came along. I'm sure its different this time :D

Tell us how many FB shares u own :D

We've seen it all before. It's all a part of the game: The Wall Street mafia version of musical chairs. When the music stops, 4 or more years from now, make sure you've got a chair. One thing is constant, however, the definition of "ridiculous." And gambling when the odds favor the house has always been ridiculous.

Yup...anybody heard of Skype? International messaging/calls are free, ya know.

Unless Skype is raking it, and Zuck sees a squashable adversary, how much more horizontal growth can the market for blabbing a bunch of noise get into?
