Does your Back hurt ? What do you do?

  1. I broke my L5 vertebrae a few years ago deadlifting(I had previously injured it that just finished it off). Talk about back pain lol, it hurt so bad to sit, stand, walk, and everything else you can imagine. I got a back brace which made my life 10 times better for a month or two before cracking a rib lmao then my back brace hurt super bad to wear because the rib.

Anyways my best suggestion for back pain is to strengthen your core like everyone else has said. Suprisingly, alot of back issues can be fixed by working your abs. That was the main thing they pushed when I was going through physical therapy. That and consciously maintain perfect posture while you are sitting in your chair. Don't slouch or anything. If you always think about perfect posture, after awhile you won't have to think about it it will just be natural.

as usual-you have to be more specific. i use to have chronic LOWER back pain. i'm sitting pretty much all day long in my chair. the pain was pretty bad. every time i stand up-it would take few minutes for pain to go away. i was like this for years, until i start regularly exercise. i mean 30 min at least every other day. many times 30-45 min every day.
cardio, some P90X,jogging for couple miles. you have to be careful,if you are 40+ and add it up gradually. it will go away. actually-all my problems went away. i use to have carpal tunnel ,knee pain etc. all gone. you can start with simple stuff like this-

do not expect it to go away immediately. it might take months.

Although a bit less dangerous than Atkins' diet, the Zone diet isn't anti-inflammatory. Animal-based foods, oils, and refined grains and sugars are highly inflammatory and contribute to the development of most chronic disease.

Worse, Sears blatantly lied in his book with regard to Ironman champion Dave Scott, stating that the Zone Diet was responsible for Scott's comeback at age 40. Dave Scott, who won the Ironman World Championship 6 times while on a pure plant-based diet, stated in 2001:

"That's the biggest false statement ever. I've never read Sears' book. I've never tried Sears' diet. It's been awful having to refute this lie for the past five years. I called and left a message for Sears and sent him an e-mail, and he never replied."

Sears has never published any research to support his theories, and he is admittedly overweight.

The most anti-inflammatory diet (which also has an excellent track record of reversing type II diabetes and heart disease) is a whole foods plant-based diet.

Regarding back pain, check out Dr. Neal Barnard's "Foods That Fight Pain" for an explanation of why back pain is so common.

All you traders who insist on audited proof that trading educators are profitable traders should appreciate the pictorial record of diet educators:

I've been plant-based for nearly 8 years and haven't had back pain or hip pain (used to have chronic arthritis) for 8 years.

That could just be a coincidence though, much like the lucky coincidence I keep experiencing when I use the technical analysis of price action to trade.

Did the job involve having to sit long hours over a monitor ??

My solution is lose weight , take short walks inside the room/office , better posture .

If the problem persists visit a physician .

Beware as it might me a somehow unrelated problem and it may take a while to find the root.

PS Say no to prescription drugs

  7. My back used to hurt so bad that I could barely turn.

The first thing I did was stop sitting so long. Sitting for long periods of time is not good. They say it compresses your spine.. not to mention puts you at higher risk for heart disease.

Then I started up physical activity (blood flow). If you are jogging.. that can sometimes make it worse.. imagine that your back is injured and you are bouncing up and down on it.. You might wanna try an elliptical machine or a bike.

I also noticed a difference after my sister gave me one of those foam rollers to decompress the spine with stretches.. from Walmart.

I used to think that the smaller one might have worked better. But, I very rarely have back pain now.

Back pain sucks. Hope you get better.

Finally I have found the thread where I posted my advices earlier, I added a few more:

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=3127726&highlight=back+pain#post3127726

Read the whole thread, there are other good ideas in it....

Here is what I have found over the years that works for me:

    1. Sleep on as hard bed as you can stand. That is one of the most important thing, since you spend 1/3 of your time sleeping. One trick I did when I had to sleep on a soft bed is to put cardboards on the bed, making it harder. Eventually it will break up and soften, but for a few nights it works...(or on a soft hotel bed or away from home)

    2. Swim, swim, swim. This is the only sport I can do without any pain and I don't have to worry about sudden moves. Your spine has no weight on it while you are weightlessly floating in water. Taking a hot bath also helps.

    3. Posture during the day. Find a comfortable sitting or lying position that doesn't hurt you in the long run. Even standing is better than sitting in the wrong position. I ordered a kneeling chair, but that put too much weight on my knees, but you might want to give it a try...

    4. Running is bad, walking is good. I have noticed if I squat for 20-30 seconds during my walks, that fixes my backpain. I guess it readjusts the spine or something. In a similar way, if I sit up in the bed for 5-10 minutes before getting up, that also fixes my morning pain. You might just have to find certain positions that readjust your discs...

    5. Nutritions: I have taken turmuric and it had positive effects because it helps the blood flow and has antiinflamatory and painkilling effects. It is an Indian spice, cheap and no bad sideeffects. It helps with your bowel movement too. I also take fish oil for similar reasons.

    6. There are message boards for spine problems, look them up, plenty of good info. www.spine-health.com

    7. Physical therapy (strecthing, yoga) should be continued even after the pain goes away. It is important to keep your back and stomach muscles in shape...

    8. Don't be overweight. This was never an issue for me, but obviously extra weight puts extra pressure on your spine and discs...

    9. Try an inversion table. You can get a decent one under $200. 5-10 minutes hanging upside down might do the trick. I have one although I don't use it very often, I usually get sleepy on it. I guess its effect varies for each individual. Still, it is much cheaper than paying for spine pulling machines...

    10. If you have to lift something heavy, always squat first and lift with your legs keeping your back straight...

    11. Use an electric or microwavable back warmer. The later can be used while walking, or doing exercises...

    12. Look up "back pain exercise" on Youtube. There are plenty of videos showing ways to stretch or otherwise loosen up your back... The trick is to find that particular movement that releases the pain. For me, if I sit up in the bed for 5-10 minutes in the morning does the trick...

In short, take some supplement (turmuric), exercise moderately (swimming, yoga), sleep on a hard bed and watch your posture during the day....

I use Penetrex in the mornings, it helps:

There is a similar one called Sombra, that is cheaper:

P.S.: I am an internet doctor, you can trust me....

If someone can trade just from one laptop, here is a solution for the smart and lazy:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=pd_sl_6...ptop+bed+table&ie=UTF8&psrk=laptop+bed+reader

I actually made one for myself (I like to read and cruise the net in bed) using a folding metal chair. I shortened the legs, so the bottom of the chair is 1-1.5 inch above my chest, while lying, and glued a stick to its end, so the laptop would be at an angle.

Now I can trade or read while I am lying in bed and I don't have to hold the laptop's weight on my stomach....Heaven....

But anyhow, they are cheap and there are plenty of varieties:
