(Reuters) - Germany's attempt to create a multicultural society has "utterly failed," Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Saturday, adding fuel to a debate over immigration and Islam polarising her conservative camp. Speaking to a meeting of young members of her Christian Democrats (CDU), Merkel said allowing people of different cultural backgrounds to live side by side without integrating had not worked in a country that is home to some four million Muslims. "This (multicultural) approach has failed, utterly failed," Merkel told the meeting in Potsdam, south of Berlin. Merkel faces pressure from within her CDU to take a tougher line on immigrants who don't show a willingness to adapt to German society and her comments appeared intended to pacify her critics. She said too little had been required of immigrants in the past and repeated her usual line that they should learn German in order to get by in school and have opportunities on the labour market. The debate over foreigners in Germany has shifted since former central banker Thilo Sarrazin published a book accusing Muslim immigrants of lowering the intelligence of German society. Sarrazin was censured for his views and dismissed from the Bundesbank, but his book proved highly popular and polls showed a majority of Germans agreed with the thrust of his arguments. Merkel has tried to accommodate both sides of the debate, talking tough on integration but also telling Germans that they must accept that mosques have become part of their landscape. She said on Saturday that the education of unemployed Germans should take priority over recruiting workers from abroad, while noting Germany could not get by without skilled foreign workers. In a weekend newspaper interview, her Labour Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) raised the possibility of lowering barriers to entry for some foreign workers in order to fight the lack of skilled workers in Europe's largest economy. "For a few years, more people have been leaving our country than entering it," she told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. "Wherever it is possible, we must lower the entry hurdles for those who bring the country forward." The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) says Germany lacks about 400,000 skilled workers. Why is it that the acknowledgement that forced integration and excessive and non selective immigration has created very negative outcomes addressed by accusations of nazism? The obvious is punching us right in the mouth yet the stupid liberal left is so desperate to hang on to their idealogy that they would rather we go down than admit multiculturalism doesn't work. I said many times on this board, a first grader can understand it- you cannot expect to live peacefully and prosper with a bunch of people who are trained to despise your system of values and culture. You cannot win over people with handouts, you cannot tolerate the intolerant, and you cannot live with the attitude that everyone must like you. Worse yet, if they get a voting majority they will turn around and take away the freedoms that afforded them immigration. Why does this even need to be said? Because we have a bunch of children called the liberal left who insist otherwise. If multiculturalism is a good idea, then we need to allow NAMBLA into the grade schools. After all they simply have another cultural point of view that needs acceptance and tolerance. All you liberals, especially women, go live in Saudi Arabia for a few years. I'm glad Merkel said it. A modern high tech economy importing millions of culturally hostile and uneducated people when they can't even employ their own underclass- what a dumb idea.
Multiculturalism only works if those that are immigrating wish to assimilate into the culture of the country they're wanting to call home. Totally assimilate! That's how it was years ago, but the immigrants of today have no interest in assimilating, specifically, muslims and mexicans. So one must ask, are these really immigrants, or are they the first wave of an invasion?

The history of Chinese immigration had many of the same problems. The Chinese didn't want to assimilate for fear they would be rejected by their homeland ( too westernized) and rejected by the citizens of their "new" country for not accepting American traditions. The Chinese have their Chinatowns. I think the difference is, the Chinese did not ask us to change our politics, laws, or accept their language in schools or their refusal of all things American. The Chinese didn't ask for a statue of Buddha in school or Chinese holidays, etc.
Not only that. You can't allow 3rd world immigrants in en masse. They bring the 3rd world with them! And why wouldn't they?! To allow 3rd world-ers in, you need to do so in very modest proportions. It's stupid to think that you can have mass 3rd world immigration, and then NOT have them bring 3rd world customs, culture, and behavior with them. If they are admitted in very limited numbers, it's not nearly as palpable, and they are more inclined to assimilate.
