I believe we all genuinely want to help people (it's kind of human nature) -- but also, at the same time, not say too much about ourselves/strategy. ...it's a fine line, or a huge grey area. ...saying 'human nature' reminded me of the movie Trading Places 1983. lol. (the ongoing debate of nature vs nurture in creating a trader/executive)
There's also a privacy issue about sharing too much personal info online with anonymous people because there's a few real jerks out there in this world that would be very eager to stop by to say hello. Seriously, there was a guy here that shared his trader workstation in one of the old workstation threads. He had this crazy amount of monitors that he posted. Many replies about him lying, copying the image from an image source, not a trader, loser and so on. He then felt compel to prove himself so he then posted his business address (his trading office) and invited anyone to stop by and say hello along with allowing them to view his trading office for verification that he was telling the truth. Baron or a moderator deleted his post with his address a few days later. Too late, damage done. He did get visitors and a few were wackos...one he had to call security because the stranger (had to be an ET member) made threats and said he had a weapon. Simply, be careful about what personal info you cough up here at this forum just to prove something or to brag about something...some folks here got some real problems that we know nothing about due to the nature that its an anonymous forum. We've also had a few situations of members being hacked by other members. Yet, nothing could be proven it was another member. I saw a documentary once about how hackers can befriend you online at forums and soon you think you have a buddy...you begin sharing all kind of personal stuff about your life. Another situation, a few members continue getting into heated debates here at ET...one not able to put the other on ignore. Eventually after several months of arguing, debating, personal attacks...they decided to meet in person in Chicago after discovering they both lived in the same city area... A meeting for the sole purpose of "last one standing gets to say I was right". One admitted later that he brought along a friend just in case he was losing the fight. Be careful...some members here don't have their heads on straight. P.S. That next vacation trip you're taking...don't announce it at a forum full of anonymous folks and don't say when your going. I think I see about 20 ET members per year doing such type of announcements here at the forum. Members that had already shared their city location, name and favorite hangouts in other forum discussions.
Anyone with the habit of posting spreadsheets or word.doc files should beware their real name is often accessible via an advanced proprieties button (which is barely noticeable) on one of the file property tabs, if you aren't in the habit of either leaving sw registration info blank or entering 'user' for your name when asked for identifying info.
I don't know exactly, a while back I stopped posting nicely illustrated detailed charts. Basically I've illustrated plenty of times the concepts -- both simple and somewhat advanced -- that anyone needs to begin their own trading plan development. Any further discussion of the current evolution of my trading methods would likely just confuse beginning and intermediate traders and piss off the folks here who trade similar tactics.
No, the overall odds are the same; the major advantages are more opportunities each day (especially in choppy and range bound conditions), and sometimes additional room for profit targets. And also better chances at scratching certain trades instead of taking the full loss.
I apologize for saying you should consider the risk of ruining your setups. I'm not mad nor will anything you disclose offend me. You've exercised perfect discretion in the past. The missing piece which is extremely difficult for others to assimilate is after taking a few ideas from the public domain you took the time to make them work. You worked harder and longer at studying your charts than others. You had great teachers but no one gave you a working setup that didn't require considerable time and effort trying to understand before you could make it work for yourself. At least that's been my experience with the setups Brooks published. After spending the time to understand them they work exactly the way he said they would and for the reasons he said they would. And that's an understatement, if any, plug for him ...because they're a springboard to so much more ... So essentially, everyone already has a book full of working setups.
