Does my DOM suck?

  1. I'm glad you brought up Jigsaw. This was the webinar guy's DOM of choice. Is it something that can run on its own, or does it need to link up to a brokerage. I otherwise really like thinkorswim. Their charts are very nice and I have grown accustomed to the "thinkscript" so I can write my own studies/back tests and whatnot.

  2. Explain the difference of a good DOM and a bad one.

  3. That's what I want to find out. From what I can see comparing my ToS platform to what it looks like Jigsaw had to offer, these are the differences. ToS seems to have a limited range where orders are shown (like maybe 10 ticks worth of order data in either direction). this just shifts up or down with the market price. Do better DOMs show ALL of the orders? Also, the count profile of how many contracts traded at each tick value seems to be sketchy. Right now on /ES it is showing one value of 2,600 traded at 2080.25, and then no other counts for the other ticks or numbers just pop up and disappear... huhh? On the other ladders I have seen these volume profiles fill in smoothly and are more enlightening as to what is going on at each tick value. Also, I think Jigsaw has a feature that splits the prints between bid and ask.

EDIT.....actually, I just went back to look at my DOM. I think the glitch with the volume profile is that it does not start counting until you open up the application. Now my main concern is should I be seeing more depth of orders.... like are there ones 15 or 20 ticks out (people's stops.... do stops even show up?)..... should I even care about those? (not sure, just learning about reading the ladder and what information to pay attention to and what to filter out)

The TOS DOM, while basic, is a DOM like most others. It's not limiting the depth as far as I know and those products you talk about with 20+ levels on each side are typically more on European exchanges that TDA doesn't offer access to.

  5. Firetip has the best DOM for futures.

  6. Thanks for the suggestion. Do they have the capability to split the bid and ask order flow data? Do they let you bring up earler composites of that data?
