I read this article on Investopedia, which states that IB eliminated the 10k minimum to open an account, (https://www.investopedia.com/news/interactive-brokers-eliminates-10000-account-minimum/) but on the IB website it still states that a 10k minimum is required to open an account. (https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=4969) So, I'm not sure if they did or not.
They haven't enforced it in years according to a statement they put out a while back. They also said they've dropped it now from what I read in an article I came across
No there is 10K account min. required anymore BUT you need to pay $10 in account maintenance fee per month unless you generate that much in commissions. If your account balance is below 2K starting at the 9th month that you've opened your account with them, you need to generate at least $20 of monthly commissions to avoid paying account maintenance fees. So yeah they are letting anybody to open an account but you pay for the account if the balance is small enough. https://www.interactivebrokers.ca/en/index.php?f=4969
