I am thinking of buying an AMD X2 Dual Core PC.

    Two Questions.

    1. Does TWS support Dual Core PC?

    2. Whats the better buy?

    HP a1530n
Intel Pentium D 820 Viiv Dual Core 2.8 Ghz
    1 GB Ram
    250 GB Hard Drive
    17” Flat Panel
    $740

    Vs.

    HP a1520n
    AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.0 Ghz
    1 GB Ram
    250 GB Hard Drive
    17” Flat Panel
    $700

I have a full time job, and will be trading on the side, so I am just looking for mid-high level PC, nothing to crazy. Thanks in advance.

  2. I havn't tried it, but I can see no reason why it shouldn't. Java multi threading support is very good and quite mature - this is one of it's strengths.

I think it does. The CPU load seems to distribute across the two cores.

Dual core really makes a big difference. Java is a real pig and when you run TWS, datafeed, charts, browsers, then really bog down.

The AMD x2 3800 is the faster and cooler than the D820. Take the $40 you save and buy another 1 Gig of RAM and your PC will take anything you throw at it.

  4. trader25: For 700 bucks there are much better options out there on the market. Intel Core 2 Duo is the best x86 dual core processor on the market, and the AMD X2 3800 is definitely better than the Intel D820...

I sometimes run TWS on a MacBook Pro (Intel Dual Core) with no problems.
