Does hodling bitcoin even make sense any more?

  1. Why would you omit the dividend lol? If you include the dividend they perform practically the same. AND why are we still comparing to BITO???

If we start with 100k at the beginning of 2024:

    Bitcoin: 2.27
    Bitcoin Jan1: $44k
    Bitcoin today: $98k
    Total pnl: 121K

    Bito shares: 5000
    Bito Jan1: $20
    Bito today: $27
    Dividends collected since Jan1: 85k
    Total pnl: 120k

Now lets add the tax savings from the tfsa :)

If the 77% return is compounded, over 10 years it would be 300x, not 7.7x

Since start of Jan 2015, ie. 10 years ago, bitcoin has gone up 300x

No they are not even close. BTC more than doubled and BITO yield is less than 25%
We are discussing BITO because you claimed you bought some when you sold MARA and GME and it is the only bitcoin futures ETF that pays a dividend. If you are aware of any others what are they?

  7. Do the math dude...if you bought bitcoin at 59k you only made 66% return. Bitcoin can't keep up to dividends. Like I mentioned, hodling 10 btc from March to November would have cost you 600k in lost dividends while bitcoin went sideways!

    @wxytrader
I'll give you 20 bucks on the 1st, you are close actual was 20.50 and if you bought on the 2nd it was 22
Dividends were only 70K (Where did you get 85?) and price at the end of the year was 23.

  9. On the other hand, any dictator like Trudeau can (and probably will at some point) alter the tax-free rules pertaining to TFSA/Roth IRAs.
