There's a thread about 'white privilege'. What about that? Of course the op of that thread may identify as a negro, I don't know. And then there's the 'wacky Christian' thread. How does that one fit into your dislike for generalization? How bout obummer? He talked about ' the typical white person' in a disparaging way. He also spoke disparagingly of Christians when he was in homoville, ca in his 08 campaign. And then there's his vp, who said how fortunate the party was to finally find a black man that was clean and articulate. Do you really think the leftist mo of screaming racism is going to work here at et , just because it makes republicans in dc cower and beg for mercy? Around here we'll just call ya a bunch of hypocrites and laugh.
My life experience tells me that those who present opinions like the one you have presented are either manipulative ( e.g. like a lawyer representing the tobacco companies ) or just ignorant. Or if you just walked into this topic unannounced and made an unresearched opinion, well, that just foolishly sets you up to sound ignorant. Doesn't really matter to me which one applies, I haven't lost any argument on this topic, I presented some disturbing content ( one of a long series of such content over many years ), and people can judge for themselves. And I believe I got my answer. Elite Trader stands behind the content. TGregg continues as a moderator, helping to monitor the suitability of content on this site, and is perhaps emboldened to continue to act as he has moving forward. As will the small gang of dubious characters that live on the P&R ( most know who they are on here because they are aggressive and quick to hate on entire groups of people ). I'm not sure what the positives are supposed to be with some of these characters. It's not an exaggeration though to note the excessive social turmoil in the US compared to other first world peaceful countries and think there is a connection, that the "hands off" approach isn't working out. Americans tend to be patriotic and believe they have it great. I'm fine with that, if you are all happy with the way things are going then good luck to you. I just don't think categorizing American citizens by background, race, appearance, income status or other in order to ostracize them and make them some sort of non-American that doesn't count is the way to go ( to me it's immoral but let's just frame it in terms of quality of life instead ).
I was going to reply with some thoughtful counterpoints to your post until I just read the background thread on you from 2011. Well it is now obvious you are a nutjob. Not worth my time.
Everyone is racist to some degree or another - that is if you go by the textbook definition. the only difference is the manner in which different people express this preference. For example, if you're a white woman, and you would never consider marrying an Asian man, you're racist. Black men who don't find East Indian women attractive are racist. Hell, our discriminatory nature goes a lot further. If you don't find overweight women attractive, you're discriminating against fat people. Only like blondes or tall women? You discriminate against short people! If you're white and you don't hang out with black people, guess what? Same in reverse. All nationalities, all races, prefer their own to people not their own - even if they don't vocalize it and it's subconscious. People need to understand that this "flaw" if you want to call it such, is simply human nature, although we see examples of it in the animal kingdom as well. Being vocal - and insulting - about races and your preference isn't the best way to go about a discussion on the topic, but some people choose that way to express themselves. If words have such power over you, then you really need to look introspectively to see how to fix that, because you'll never run out of people who offend you with words. The only way to stop it is to pass through it. There are a lot of posts on the P+R forum that I find offensive, but I'm not going to get into it with people because it's their opinion. How can you argue with someone on their opinion? Maybe you'd be the same way had you walked a thousand miles in their shoes. Maybe you wouldn't. The only arguments/discussions to get in are situational, or solution based. Ie, you can argue over the best way to bring welfare to the poor, or whether there should be welfare in the first place. But if someone says "I feel that poor people bring it on themselves"...how can you really argue with the way they feel? The best you can hope for is to ask why and try to change their mind (good luck). But feelings, which is where these offensive discriminatory remarks come from, can't really be debated. Point is, you need to get over it. For your own good.
So now you're trying to equate the vagaries of human attraction to the kind of blatant racial profiling and other bigotry that goes on around here? I don't think you can sanitize it quite so easily. Remember when Seinfeld mentioned that today's young are too PC? Did you listen to the innocuous example he gave? And did you bother compare it to the stuff that gets said here? Meanwhile it gave the bad haircuts here in P&R license to go to town. Surely you have heard the term false equivalency.
OTOH, what place does all this have in a trading forum? There are all sorts of other places that are more appropriate for this sort of thing, from Huffington Post to Breitbart. ET is not one-stop shopping. If it were, there would be webinars, video tutorials, a chat room, and so forth. Instead, it's no more than a message board. Unsupervised. Like in the hallway at the dorm.
The discourse in P&R might improve substantially if it were moderated for the racist and insulting comments. Racial slurs and insults reduce the credibility of ones actual ideas and make that poster sound just plain stupid. All value of the thread (and the perspective professional traders bring to those issues) is lost. It's no different from when trading threads get derailed by pissing contests. Intelligent conversation about politics and religion doesn't require rude language. Rude language is a crutch of the uninformed.
Agree, it shouldn't be on a trading forum. But economics is often polluted with politics, and the past (on this site) has shown that not having the forum pollutes trading forums with politics.
