Does anyone else feel sleepy while trading?

An afternoon nap is probably worth half what the equivalent time spent at night is.

London remains in the best time zone for trading which partly explains why it's the global financial centre of the world.

They obviously didn't have much choice. Either nap or fall asleep in the plane!

A 23minute nap is reputed to be the most effective time frame. Restful without falling into REM sleep.

All I know is that it makes me more productive for the rest of the day.

I remember when I begin to take afternoon naps...it was when my kids were born. I just continue doing it even after they stopped around the age of 7. They were at a school that had a policy of nap time until age of 7.

Today, the afternoon naps helped me be more focus in the afternoon trading session after the nap. I'm a better trader because of such...an understatement. On the weekends, when I take afternoon naps...I get more personal things accomplished.

In fact, when I was in the hospital for an illness, I would instruct the nurses not to wake me up from my afternoon nap that usually lasted about 30 minutes. Also, this was very beneficial when I went through rehab too.

After working nights or 48 hour shifts for nearly 20 years, I feel screwed for life.. I thought having automation I finally sleep normal but nothing has changed. I get at 1am whether I slept 3 hours or 30 minutes, am up for the day, once in while nap for ten minutes. Treadmills worked for me and got up to 12 miles a day and lost 75 pounds.

Don't get me wrong...i nap as well! but i don't think the quality is worth anything like the sleep quality at night.

  8. That sounds rough. :/ Have you tried using a UV lamp during the daytime, or making sure you get plenty of sunshine during the day, and then at night, careful to avoid any light in the blue spectrum (which is what white light has a lot of)? You want to keep your lights (and your phone, computer, etc) all very dim and more orange/warm in color than white. These tips can possibly help resent your circadian rhythm. You might also look into supplementing with melatonin at night. And if you're sleeping during the day, perhaps if you cut back some on sleeping during the day, you'll eventually start getting sleep at night? I bet you'll get back on track soon. And that's awesome about the treadmill and your weight loss--congrats!. :)

    SLEEPING BEFORE MIDNIGHT:

Somebody above mentioned whether sleeping before midnight is more beneficial. According to Dr. Rahul Mukherjee, it is! He says it's worth about double the sleep you get after midnight (like what my dad learned about naps). https://vervemagazine.co.nz/the-science-of-sleep/ I would want to see further studies on this, however. As sleep/naps affect us all differently, I think the key is experimenting and finding what works best for you. Wishing all good rest. :D

Thank you, I have tried that and much much much more, many drugs don't even work on me for sleep or pain. Surgeries I start count at 99 to 0, have tried hypnosis and that got me up to 3 hours but not anything else. Might be fear, not of dying though, worse things in life than dying, life is hard.

  10. Oh no, I'm so sorry. :( I suppose you have also tried the neurotransmitter, GABA? It is often depleted under stress, and it's hard for the brain to shut down and sleep without it. My naturopath taught me this during a brief bout of insomnia, and it worked like a charm. B Vitamins? 5-HTP? If you're chemically imbalanced, that can definitely cause anxiety, insomnia, depression, etc. Are you eating a diet based on real foods--nothing artificial or processed? No artificial sweeteners, no trans fats or hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup... I'm guessing yes to most of this...just some ideas. :)

I'm so sorry you struggle with fear. I don't know if you're a person of faith or not, but for me, what gives me peace and greatly helps keep fear at bay is knowing God is with me no matter what, and He knows what He's doing. He can work all things for good, and I see this happen all the time. Even when I was trading, I was so calm, as I knew God was with me. I've had so many amazing experiences as a Christian, that it's an unshakeable foundation I stand on. So, if you're a believer, or open to it, I definitely recommend seeking a relationship with God and putting your trust in Him. Sorry if this offends anyone--this is my personal belief and what works for me. :)

I really hope something works out for you soon, and I'm sure it will. Keep trying--I believe you'll get there. :)

P.S. I just checked your profile and see that you're in Texas. Here's an idea...if you look at what's called a light pollution map, you'll see there are many places in Texas that have *dark skies* where you can see thousands of stars, plus the Milky Way. Since you wake up in the middle of the night, perhaps stargazing, astrophotography, or amateur astronomy with astronomy binoculars or a telescope might be a fulfilling hobby for you, and maybe even one that could help alleviate some of your fears, as it's an absolutely incredible, peaceful feeling to be under dark skies beholding the vast universe that surrounds us. You can see nebula, galaxies and star clusters with just your eyes. Binoculars will show you the shape of Andromeda Galaxy. If you think this might interest you, feel free to send me a PM, and I would be happy to offer suggestions of where to go depending on your location. :)
