Does anybody own a ferrari?

  1. I think you all missed the point of his last post. If he thinks a Corvette rides too rough, he sure as hell won't like the way a Ferrari rides.

Anyway, if he hasn't got the bucks for a new one, how's he going to pay for repairs/maint on an old one. For example, on my BMW M Roadster, replacing the fuel pump, relay, and wiring harness costed $4200 and took 2 weeks. Imagine what repairs would be on a Ferrari. On my Formula or trans Am I bet it would be under $500.

Go find one of those new GTO's or a low miles 2000-2002 Trans Am. They have gobs of power, don't cost a lot to buy/feed/maintain, and are both comfortable and great fun to drive. The GM V8's with 6 spds are wickedly quick and good for 27 mpg out on the highway. Don't get red. They are ticket magnets.

  2. You could have a Gallardo modified with the scissor doors, and in the end it'd still be $100k less than a Murci. I've seen a couple of Gallardos like this. but cars with these doors are hard to get in and out of.

  4. Ferraris are fabulous cars. In terms of visceral sight appeal they practically stand alone. They have some significant disadvantages however:

    1. They are extremely costly to service and repair.
    2. They have less than ideal reliability.
    3. They are cop magnets. Especially in the “arrest me red” color.
    4. Here in Chicago only about 10% of the owners drive them regularly. I see a lot of F360’s and some F430’s come up for sale with 500 to 1000 miles on them. I think a lot of doctors and other professionals buy them and find out they are too much car for them and the lack the comfort and amenities of other luxury brands.
    5. Your friends and fellow motorists will hate you out of envy and jealousy.
    6. Bad guys will follow you home to case where you live.
    7. Owning a Ferrari may lead some of your friends to think you have self-esteem issues.
    8. You have to pay close attention to the condition of your timing belts. They need to be changed every 30,000 miles or 7 years to prevent massive destruction of the engine if they break which will cost you tens of thousands of dollars to repair, even in the older models like the 328 GTSi. Make absolutely sure you get written documentation of the most recent timing belt service! If unavailable contact the servicing dealer for a copy or the repair order, Otherwise you are playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the gun.
    9. The suspension joints tend to wear out in the 308 and 328 models after about 50,000 miles.
    10. The clutch plates are very expensive to replace.
    11. There are no service manuals for do-it-yourselfers, although there are some internet sources for some procedures.
    12. If you have a breakdown you’ll need to flatbed the car to a local dealer as few repair facilities will touch them.

All this considered, if you can easily afford the high maintenance costs, they are a fantastic car to own and drive. If not, consider a Porsche 911, Corvette ZO6 or a BMW M Series as an alternative.

It's game on when the doors go up on the Murcielago. That is the sole reason to pass on the Gallardo/F430. The scissor doors are unmistakeable and women are NOT afraid to approach you in this car...maybe that behavior is isolated to Chicago women only?!?

    Which kind of female's ?
