  5. "Buddha created a "religion" to expose your conditioning. Guy Claxton wrote a book "The Wayward Mind" based on the latest research. But, if you trade better on paper then with cash, trust me, something is happening in your mind."

  6. kiwi trader, haven't read it and likely won't, but appears to be about the unconcious mind:
"In Claxton, are we learning about the history of the unconscious, or the history of ways
of representing the unconscious? Sadly he doesn't make this clear."

the following for me makes better distinctions between brains

    LEFT BRAIN . . . . . . . . . . . . RIGHT BRAIN
    uses logic . . . . . . . . . . . . . uses feeling
    detail oriented . . . . . . . . . "big picture" oriented
    facts rule . . . . . . . . . . . . . imagination rules
    words and language . . . . . . symbols and images
    present and past . . . . . . . . present and future
    math and science . . . . . . . philosophy and religion
    can comprehend . . . . . . . . can "get it" i.e. meaning
    knowing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . believes
    acknowledges . . . . . . . . . . appreciates
    order/pattern perception . . . spatial perception
    knows object name . . . . . . knows object function
    reality based . . . . . . . . . . fantasy based
    forms strategies . . . . . . . . presents possibilities
    practical . . . . . . . . . . . . . impetuous
    safe . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . risk taking

edited: "Our personality can be thought of as a result of the degree to which these left
and right brains interact, or, in some cases, do not interact.
It appears that most people will never reach their maximum potential because of compromises
that have been made between these two governing bodies.
Ideally, both brains work together in people with optimum mental ability.
This coordinating ability may be the key to superior intellectual abilities."

a529612 has posed an interesting and as worded somewhat ambiguous question

suppose one is more right brain and using 'pattern recognition' to identify trade
entry/exits, does one have to have the left side agree in order to enter the trade ?
does the left side first require fulfillment in order to accept right side instructions ?
how does one override a negative/dominant left and/or right function ?
how does one optimally, obtain/train for the requisite left/right brain coordination ?

  7. Re reading it: your loss. The guardian reviewer didn't reach the bit about the modern views of the brain. If you want a less populist view try some of the material at http://www.edge.org/

Re the list: 80's style new age rubbish ... but not a valid representation of the brain but people don't stop creating material just because its not real (just look at the "scent will make u better new agers" and the folk who'll introduce you to your dead mother).

  8. LOL. Just looked up the first quote ... very new age. Then looked at the host site for the quote:

  10. kiwi trader, so what if the list's dated
and re your LOL — you're obviously a left brainer

the fact remains the brain has 2 hemispheres and the list is useful
because it's understandable — what other brain 'models' are there ?
many people are left or right dominant so an additional question is
does knowing ones brain dominance improve trading ?

or are you thinking consciousness: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consciousness
