Um, Mahram, you might want to check your stats to see how many registered Republicans support the "religious right". They are far in the minority. The prez candidates have to pander to them because they vote as a block, and have mega funds. Conventional wisdom says you can't get nominated in the Republican primaries if you don't at least pretend to support the religious views. Case in point: McCain. He has made obvious concessions to the religious right from his views in the past, simply because he wants to get nominated. You think he all of a sudden had a vision and believes the religious drivel? I actually believe we would have a Democrat in office now if that party would nominate a credible candidate. They seem determined to nominate the worst possible the last two elections.
