I don't tell people what I do, then I make up very entertaining stories about how I got the facial tics, the head twitch, etc.

If they ask just say you're doing independent research for the tax department and they will change the subject rather quickly.

  4. Here's a conversation I had not too long ago.

    Q:So, What do you do?
    A:Oh, I do a lot.

Q: Yes, But how do you make a living?
    A: Oh, I'm a peddler.

    Q: Peddler?
A: Yeah, buy and sell stuff online. Paper, pigs, coins, that kind of stuff. Things peoploe need and like to collect. :D

    Q: Oh, you mean eBay!?
A: Well, I've used them, but their rates are too high. I use some of the other online auction houses... (CME, CBOT...)

    Cheer,

Me: "Really?. How long you been trading?"

Why not just say you are a manage money from your home office?

of course if you dress like a beach bum and drive a gremlin
    they might wonder.

I'm like "I buy and sell stuff over the internet" some people say "ebay?" and I'm like " Ebay rules!" I think everyone thinks I grow drugs in my basement.

When people ask me how I am doing, I usually say "I will tell you at the end of the year when I file my tax return".
