The entire Kavanaugh charade is badly backfiring on the Democrats. Now that they established the new standard in politics is a no-proof smear --- this standard will now be applied to every Democratic politician... and strangely enough the allegations are all coming out of their own camp.

  2. Oh, man. Gonna be popcorn time before long. link below.

We have lefty on lefty intramural fighting now. WAPO versus the Lt. Guv.

Dems are in a box now where they dont want the guv there for political signaling reasons. But don't dare to replace him with the sub-guv because they would have to put their stamp of approval on him and he is damaged goods.

I am reminded of what an old right wing white guy, Virginian MAGA type, Thomas Jefferson, said once when he knew that slavery was a coming - no win- conflict.

    He said:

    (slight paraphrase but not much)

"Keeping slavery is like having a wolf by the ears. You dont dare to hold on, and you don't dare to let go."

Think about it. He was pretty smart for a white guy and it applies 100% to the current situation there.

  3. The Modern day Pharisees, better known as the Twitter mob, don’t distinguish between past and present. Your sins or mistakes from decades gone by will define you today. Only the chosen few are given the liberty to have "evolved", and that number is dwindling by the day. I keep saying, in the end everyone fails the purity test in some fashion. Aren't any squeaky clean hands out there. And yes, it is somewhat surprising that all of this new age judgement comes from the previously permissive, anything goes left. I say somewhat because those with fascist tendencies do end up turning on themselves more often that not. All in the name of orange man bad. The only question remaining is just how much collateral damage are they willing to take just in order to smear one man?

Is there anyone on this forum besides me who believes that a picture taken 30+ years ago is not something a governor should be resigning for — especially if his political views have evolved since that time and that type of photo/party was common in the 80s at universities. Apologize for it and move on. Why does everyone have to be so “offended” in the modern era.

  6. The governor has put the dem party at risk of having a big negative campaign issue in 2020 if they defend him. That's all. They are acting to defend the lefty party which requires them to sacrifice one of their own and to show that they were they slayer or else have to face the music in the primaries/general. Dont kid yourself. It is all about defending the dem party for 2020 and trying to cut off a gangrenous leg in advance rather than have the pubs do it.

Or perhaps you think that Nancy Pelosi would be weighing in on a Virginia state matter if we were not in the campaign cycle?

As was demanded with kavanaugh, investigate and bury the guy under the prison if guilty. As was asked with kavanaugh, hold his promotion until he's cleared. Which means keep blackface in place until then. And just as with kavanaugh, the timing is rather convenient.

Virginia doesn't allow governors to serve consecutive terms, and VA gubernatorial elections are off-year. There's no chance of Northam winning another election for anything (all his opponent would need to do is run ads featuring the photo), but he's also not too much of a liability for Dems.

Seems like he might be able to weather the storm and serve out his term. The lieutenant governor is another matter...
