Do You Actually Enjoy Trading?

I don't think I'd trade if I didn't enjoy it. There's a lot of learning curve and you've got to think it's worth doing.

But cant you do something else while waiting for trades? As in read a book, play a game, clean the appartment, cook, backtest? If I understood you correctly, your automated algo is providing signals, on which you react. A loud signal would call you to your working station, no?

 

45 years later, have gone way 10,000% beyond what I thought I could accomplish. When people said something could not be done, I found a way. I don't know how to quit. Almost all been automated between scalping, day trading, very long term futures and swinging options. Months go by of visiting my office and staff, now I find trading so boring, mundane. Am teaching couple of buddies is as close as I come to trading any more.

 

Obviously,as schizo mentioned,keep your eye on burn out but also remember that anyone who achieved anything great was obsessed and single minded till they achieved that first big step.

You may be closer to cracking the code than you think.Not the time to worry about your work/life balance.

I f*cking love it! It allows me to make lots of money, travel around the world and bang b*tches.

- I enjoy the analysis work more. The actual trading can be fun when it's not too stressful. I enjoy it the most when I have made a profit.

 

Daytrading was fun until the HFT and the algos killed it. And daytrading is lot less stressful when it goes well. You do all your trades, make the money, close all your trades at the end of the day and the rest of the day is all yours to enjoy and you get a good night of sleep never needing to worry how your trades are doing, getting up in the middle of the night to check whether your sl has been hit it's really annoying. HFT has taken a chunk of daytrading profit. Now you either have to scalp or swing trade in order to make money and it's a pain in the a$$. I hate carrying trades overnight. Anything can happen during the overnight session now that the Asian market is so active with so high of volume.
