Do we really need to fight inflation?

The USD won’t “crater” because the US does not depend on imports for the vast majority of its critical needs. We’re not Japan where every drop of oil and carload of iron ore needs to be purchased abroad.

Also, the American lifestyle is characterized by a fantastic amount of waste and inefficiency. Big-box stores piled high with plastic crap to fill the empty space in 5,000sf McMansions; eight-lane highways jammed with massive SUVs carrying single commuters to work at a
job which can perfectly well be done remotely. Multiple city footprints of data centers running LLMs to spam low-quality porn, etc. We could cut our consumption of most resources by at least 25% practically overnight with no decrease, or perhaps even an increase in overall subjective well-being.

If you ask me, this country could use a little consideration of where its actual priorities lie.

  2. Can you say "callous"
OMG, What is the percentage of pharmaceuticals now imported from China?
    I don't know that number but . . .
I assume insulin is in that mix.
How long can the average diabetic live without insulin.
I am lucky not to be one of them.

    How about diesel fuel?
The U.S. still pumps loads of Crude Oil (from Fracked wells).
But nothing that comes out of a Fracked well can be refined into diesel.
Where does the U.S. get its diesel?
    Mostly Russia. Yikes.
The same Looney Dems who want to start a war with Russia.
And loopy Transportation Secy Mayor "Pete" B. would probably quip:
"You don't need diesel to fight a world war, And its so dirty anyway"

    Please don't fight inflation.
    Learn to live with it.

Traders want the inflation to move (up or down doesn't matter).
When inflation moves, it provides trading opportunities.

If the inflation is stagnant, then it is bad news for the traders.

If there is hyperinflation, better get out of that country and its currency.

    No problem.
    It is your choice.

There are many people who have different thinking/belief/opinion from you.
So that will keep you busy expanding your IGNORE list.

Singapore imports everything, EVERYTHING! yet flourishes.
They don't suffer fools or political corruption like the Christian West and Christian East.
PS: They're not gun crazy either.

  7. I'll take a wild guess. Singapore doesn't have 120% debt to GDP
And they have not hollowed out their manufacturing base.
And what do they think of "transgenderism"
Betcha it's completely against the law.

On the downside, I think they still embrace corporal punishment.
I think they are fond of caning.
If nothing else, likely discourages illegal immigration.
    Probably works well.

It's a city/state. Emphasis on city. How much immigration, illegal or otherwise, could it take?

Geez we Amurikins need to get out more.

The rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in Singapore have evolved over the decades. Same-sex sexual activity is legal for both males and females; for men it was officially legalised in 2022 after being de facto decriminalised since 2007, and for women it was always legal. Prior to 2022, same-sex sexual activity between males was de jure illegal under the British colonial-era Section 377A of the Penal Code. The law had been de facto unenforced for decades. In February 2022, the Court of Appeal in the Supreme Court reaffirmed that 377A cannot be used to prosecute men for having sex with other men,[3][4][5] and that it is "unenforceable in its entirety".[5] Transgender rights in the country are also progressive in the region, which included Singapore being the first country in Asia to legalise sex reassignment surgery in 1973.
