Do Trendlines work?

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by duard, Apr 3, 2005.

  1. I spend most of my time on coarse monitoring, 2 and 5m. I keep a 1m up to watch the 2pair and spikes but it's more out of amusement than anything. Where I operate, getting it down to the last tick is not important to me. In that sense I could be more efficient. Right now I just work to get the job done.

Not sure if I'm being responsive to your post. DOM and 2 pair and spikes don't figure too much into my decision-making. I don't understand your pic so I can't comment on it. But no biggie.

A pic of my workspace I passed along to someone a while back. Maybe it will help clarify.

  4. trendlines are a visualization tool.

the lines do not exist in reality, only price, volume and time do. however they help to visualize support and resistance.

  5. Thank you for your comments icarus. I sincerely appreciate them. Your chart is a real beaut and a very telling indication of the amount of information that you can handle. Very nice and impressive.

I agree that getting it down to the last tick is not important. I am only interested at these points because I have worked my out from the finest to coarsest. Yes, I know, this is backwards. Basicaly, boundaries provide me new context/orientation for continuing in a new direction. I am looking for the flaws in 2 pair spike and trying to work out if the flaws are encapsulated. I am programmer and so am partially biased to encapsulation in the object oriented sense.

In any event, thanks again for your comments. I will study your charts that you posted to work out where your focus primarily shifts between...

    Kindest Regards,

  6. why does it matter to you?

even a charlatan can sell pure gold.

and on the other hand, even a successful trader can sell you theories that won't work.

you should take what he says for its content, and judge if it works for you or not. you can judge this by trading his methods, or paper trading his methods, or simply by glimpsing on his theories and then dismissing them. it's up to you.

who is "grob" and what he does or doesn't do is completely irrelevant to your life. even if you take interest in his theories.

and a related advice.. don't spend time trying to prove vendors are charlatans. it's like trying to prove the sun rises in the morning. just open your eyes and there it is.

You may want to refer to the paper I recently published.

  9. Grob106. Obviously you are not aware of the groundbreaking research by Mandelbread et al. which analyzed this problem in successively smaller frankels, with the curious result that it disappears if you don't look at it for very long. I might add that your paper is a disappointment because it is highly derivative of your earlier work entitled "A Report to the Carter Administration: Manual for Girl Scout Usage of Agriculturally-Derived Fuels in Optimally-Designed Architectures along the National Park Hiking Trails System as Revealed by the Modified-Delphi Process."
