The tradeoff between content and signal-to-noise ratio for an ad revenue site is always to lean towards more noise. Multiple aliases exist on almost all message board and are often passively encouraged. If some twit like KingFish wants to create a ton of aliases and answer this own posts, it may not lead to the best content, but lots of eyeballs. In the end, you have to endure the 95% noise for the 5% signal and just accept the usual flame vs. troll wars (with the n00bs trying to fight 'the good fight' vs a troll that doesn't care) as pure entertainment.
Yeah, if you don't want to cut down on the statistics, then no filter or policy will work, because a filter's job is to cut down the statistics.
These people fill the place with nonsense threads.Perhaps Baron could delete a thread started by a 'multiple aliaser' if another of that ilk posted on the same thread? These people seem to like conversations with each other (themselves)? and this might act as a deterent. The ability to see the first,say,50 words of a thread when one's mouse is held over the thread title would cut out some more dross and the continued use of the ignore button could do the rest.
It would be nice if it was possible that if those I have on ignore start a thread, then that thread title wouldn't show on the forums lists.
