Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by londonkid, Sep 22, 2015.

  1. LOL! Must have been trading his personal etrade account.

Bankers are not permitted to trade under dodd frank so why are u making this up? Does TA really mean that much to you? Sad!

As stated before but often ignored...depends on where you're at in the world and what you've seen.

Deutsche Bank AG in Hong Kong, their traders have charts (line charts, bar charts, candlestick charts) up on their screens with many other screens that have nothing to do with charts. Not all of them but most do.

You can also add them to the earlier list I posted about BNP Paribas and Credit Suisse. The list I gave only included institutions that actually have videos online that were taken from within the trading rooms. In addition, the list only included someone I know that can be seen within the video sitting at his/her desk in which you get a brief look on their screens...

Screens that show a few charts at his/her desk and at the desks of many other traders in the trading room. :D

The real question is this...is chart analysis consider to be technical analysis ?

I've met some traders heavy into chart analysis without indicators and they arguably believe they are not using any technical analysis. In contrast, I've met some traders that considers chart analysis as a form of technical analysis.

Regardless if they believe in TA or not...they are using chart analysis to help with their trade decisions although its not the primary reason for the decision.

    Don't believe the naysayers.

P.S. I'm in the camp that if you're using chart analysis to help with your trades, you're using technical analysis even if you have no technical indicators on your charts. Therefore, for someone that states they don't use charts...that should be a trader that has no charts on their screens nor collaborating with others that do use chart analysis.

    Its that simple.

Yeah, you're going to have to provide more details on this Buy1Sell2 because at this point you've either uncovered a bank doing something illegal (prop trading banned by Dodd-Frank) or you may be mistaken about what you were seeing or where you where?

  8. There are all sorts of people, doing all sorts of things at banks/institutions. Some of those people will use TA, others won't.

What sort of a silly discussion is this?

OK, so they were using TA for hedging, which is essentially the only kind of trading they're still allowed to do? Seriously?
