Anymore updates to the ADX/DX mystery?? I've been messing around in ensign and really can't come up with anything that resembles nyc's charts. Anyways, thanks for all the input from the board. Stok
amazing. the guy is churning out profits using a squiggly line that he doesnt even how its calculated. trading is in fact amazing.
Been doing more research and I know how nyc's charts are calculating the ADX line. It is just a basic DX calculation of the 15 period DMI+/DMI- lines......it is quite obvious from his charts. The only reason WarEagle's chart is plotting the DX differntly is that the 2 charts he laid out comparing his chart verses nyc's has the DMI lines plotting differently. When one does a traditional ADX line....to make it a DX line, do a 1 period MA. Most charting programs just ask what period for the ADX/DMI together...then it will plot the DMI+/- 15 period, and then a 15 period MA of the DX line (the ADX). So, nothing funky here....just a basic DX line, and that is what spreedtrader uses is all. My old metstock software can do the same thing. Stok
the calculation of the funky ADX has been discovered! i think we can all start making the big bucks now?
Ha! Just a FYI...I downloaded the Cybertrader pro demo and it has a DX function and the charts look just like nyc's. Stok
Thanks for the clarification on the DX/ADX. It's definitely helpful to know that it is DX and not ADX. If anything ever happens with my current broker or software, I'm going to need to know that when I look for another platform. Huge call on CSCO this morning. Buy CSCO @ 20.46 10:16am - Sell CSCO @ 20.75 10:50am. Too bad I only had 2000 shares instead of my normal 3000.
so now that we know how to plot the exact same thing, is anyone out there actually trying to trade like nyc??? Stok?
Did anyone come up with a TradeStation code that can plot nyc's graph, especially when the indicator gives out a buy/sell signal before the first 15 minutes of the day ? please post code. TIA
Let me make sure I understand you correctly. You set the DMI+/- to 15 periods and then set the "ADX" to 1 period to make it a "DX" line. Is that correct? When I do this in Ensign Windows, I get an ADX line that stays pegged at 100% and occasionally drops to 0% for 1 bar and then returns to 100%. I tried setting the ADX to 2 periods and it looks a lot closer, but still is not what nyc-hotshot's charts look like. Also, the DMI+/- lines do not cross where his do. On the 9/25 screenshot (see this post), nyc-hotshot's lines touch, but do not really cross at around 10:10 AM. On my 2-min chart of CSCO for 9/25, the lines do not touch or cross until 10:58. Is anyone else trying to duplicate this in Ensign? Have you been able to get it to work right? The way I'm doing it in Ensign is to create 2 instances of the DMI indicator overlaid on each other in the same sub-chart window. On the first instance of the DMI indicator, I set it to 15 periods and turn the ADX line off and leave the DMI+/- lines on. On the second instance, I set it to 1 period and turn the DMI+/- off and leave the ADX line on.
