That remains to be seen but it did not seem relevant to Trump or GOP for 2 years until Biden was the front runner so it was not a matter of national interest, only to Trump. I dont think the impeachment is going anywhere but your stating that it is of national interest if Biden pressured Ukraine to fire the DA before getting any aid. If that is true then it can be brought up repeatedly by GOP during the election to discredit Biden. But to go to another country and ask them to investigate something Biden did and threaten to withhold aid, if true, is presently the issue. How do you claim what Biden did is wrong but Trump was ok since both really were self serving. Bringing Biden does not defend Trump it makes what he did look just as bad and he of the two is in office.

When Ukraine had a new President elected because he vowed to end corruption. Perfect time to get a favor and demonstrate their efforts in fighting corruption. Why would Trump have worked with the former President regarding corruption?
Why would Trump ask Ukraine to investigate Biden who is leading in the polls. If he really cared he could have asked Justice Dept to look into it rather than Mentally Challenged Rudy who is not a government official. Why investigate what happened 2 years ago rather than ask them assist with rooting out future election interference... Because Trump only cares about slamming Biden not really acting like a corruption fighter..that is why Root a toot Rudy was tasked with this rather than real people.

My point is why come back over 3 years later and suddenly find it so important to ask about your political rival who is leading in the polls but do nothing the previous 3 years to investigate... It did not bother Trump at all until Biden was starting to threaten 2020 election.
And then there is the other view........which is that Trump did nothing because allegedly that was in Mueller's bailiwick and he could not go there, and dumb-arse Sessions recused himself from it so Trump had no choice but to just take up the bo-bo and deal with it. Then, along came Barr who decided that he was going to just go ahead and fully examine the origins of the witch-hunt and that that included looking at connections with Ukraine, and he had and has an active investigation going which extends to the Ukraine. Which also confirms that Trump had a valid reason for leaning on the President Z to get more support for an ongoing justice department led investigation, in addition to just any political gain. We have had this discussion a couple times and you reject it and, I think too, are not able to understand it. You repetitively descend into some kind of "two wrongs don't make a right" kind of argument which is neither here nor there. As I said before, you and the other lefties immediately understand the point when it applies to Obama but do not see for Trump. If I say to you that Obama and his minions had a direct political gain from investigating his opponent, Trump, y'all immediately say "yeh, maybe but he also had another legal reason for doing it so it was allowable, no person is above the law just because they are candidate, blah, blah, blah." Well, Trump had a doj based reason for wanting to see the Ukraine cough up more info on Biden, just as Obama allegedly had-allegedly- a doj-based reason for wanting his minions to cough up more info on Trump.
