zd, I've been following you on this, and I am confused...How will it kill day trading? Are you high or something? Please clarify how it will cause all day trading to cease, and the businessess to crash?

You think the brokers pay the tax? No, the traders do?

How many transactions are in the market per day? Multiply that by $0.001. Hell, multiply that by $0.00001. Now consider that much $$$ drag per day taken out of the markets. Indisputably huge.

Most day traders struggle to break even. Just imagine what would happen if they were forced to pay an extra 0.5% tax on every trade they took. You would likely see a mass exodus from retail trading. That's bound to have a significant affect on brokerage firms.

this thread is awesome. my competition is really this dense! the transaction tax changes..nothing!! if rooms in vegas triple u still go..if idea get worse you still go!! open your eyes the experiment for way more expensive transactional fees has already begun. but where you ask me? think..for yourselves..a hint. its in futures..and its recent..and people trade it. brokers fees are not 1/10 th what they were and the nfa kept their very text u 1 to 2 cent. fee..instead of raising nfa fees..you just make contracts smaller..but keep fees the same. a transactional tax really of 2 to 4 % just the new fee and people trade it...

The traders will stop trading. suppose you have 25k up. you are on 4 to 1 margin. Let's say with 100k you make 4 round trips a day. Let's say you breakeven except for the $400 transaction tax. In 60 days you roughly have no capital left.

Who cares if day trading disappears? Who cares if HFT disappears? Who cares if liquidity dries up and opens us up to a massive market crash? Who cares if we have a crash and over half of our population lose a significant percentage of their retirement savings? What could go wrong, am I right? :D

Potentially you kill the bots and the hft firms. That could mean better real liquidity and less fragmentation of markets. I'd pay up for that.

day trading means you are flat at the end of the way. if u bought 5000 then u sell 5000...that isnt what holds up mkt..the buyer of your sell holds up the mkt.
