DIS has dissed normalcy

  1. We shall see but I dont think it is fair to belittle it as woke....I mean including interaccial couples can be seen as woke by many but it just reflects real world. Woke always has a negative connotation now it seems.

Sexuality may be too far for things geared towards kids but Disney will figure out the limits eventually. Last figure I saw was 7% of U.S. population identifying as LGBT. Lot of consumer dollars in that 7% so Disney has to figure out how to tap into it balancing age appropiateness while being welcoming.

That is not "woke"... it is good business.

I think woke is a word that needs to die a fast death...

Now we're back to subjectivity again, which is fine as long as we acknowledge it. I consider showing kids homosexual or trans content "woke". You apparently do not. I'm sure someone else will try to push the envelope past that and eventually perhaps they'll go beyond what you are comfortable with, and then you'll say "that's too far" but they will say "its good business!"

  3. In Disney, no characters engage in sexual activity beyond a kiss. Therefore I cannot see how Disney can push the envelope past that since in the last 30 years no characters have gone past that point really. I have no fear that Disney is going to show to same sex characters humping or grinding in a disney cartoon.

If the kiss alone is too much for some parents then the choice protects their kids. So a hypothetical that disney is going to go too far when they haven't gone too far in any other subject I think is what I am basing this on.

woke is defined as being alert to prejudice and discrimination, when companies market products to Black audiences, or women, or gay people, is that really woke or simply recognizing who their customer base is and reviewing representation.

I want to understand why is it "woke" to have a gay character? Why is it not woke to have Black or Asian characters or interracial couples in Disney movies?

Because children every day see races other than themselves. But when a boy is kissing a boy, it tends to raise questions parents go "he/she is not ready for this discussion". Please note that I have no problem discussing this subject with my teen, but I'm not about to do it with my 5 year old (if I had one).

Again, just because YOU don't find a problem in this, doesn't mean other parents don't.

There are probably some folks out there that think nudity is acceptable for children. "Why not let them see people as nature intended!!" or something like that. I don't think that's appropriate. You?

  5. We have already agreed on this, my last post was solely focused on using the word "woke". Why is this woke which is meant to have a negative connotation.

You are not objecting to gay characters in a movie, just age appropriateness for this movie.

I think you would agree that Disney is not forcing beliefs on anyone, or forcing you to have the conversation with your child.

And the nudity is irrelevant because Disney cannot release a PG- rated movie with nudity. There is already protection built in the rating system for parents. Also public nudity is illegal so Disney is not going to have it in the parks.

I am not trying to convince you of anything...but woke is such an oversued word that people dont even know what it means. Disney was not trying to be woke because it included a gay character in a movie that people dont have to see. it just made a movie that had a gay character and parents still have the right to not take their child to see it.

No one said all parents must consider it appropriate to have gay conversations....it is fine if you dont. But it is not wrong Disney put it in something you are aware of so you can choose not to see it.

I think "woke" originally came out as a sarcastic description, but the people who tend to be "woke" in the sense that it is used don't like to be called woke. I find this amusing. Its like whenever you ask people who are clearly liberal if they are liberal, and they say "no, I'm moderate". Conservatives always admit to being conservative.

I dislike media censorship of nontraditional relationships.

True story, when I was an undergrad in 1987 I auditioned for a famous tv dating game show. I beat 30 others and was selected.

I told the producer great, but I only date Asian women. He said that was a dealbreaker, because their southern affiliate tv stations would not air it,

Please note: This is satire, lest some NPC with no sense of humor come along and shriek about misinformation.

It would possibly be amusing if your post actually included an image.
