It's not a problem. Why aren't you directing your question to Piezoe, who is implying I am backwards and intolerant because I don't agree this should be shown to my child?

  2. Well he might be interpereting your stance as it should not be shown to any child at all:

"You're specifically saying that my view (which is that childrennot be subject to homosexual content) is "distorted".

If he is wrong then he is wrong and ignore it.

Now it is a cartoon kiss and as a parent you are 100% correct to say you do not want your child seeing this at age ____. But the interpretation by many, and I am assuming NOT you, that no children should see two cartoon characters of the same sex kiss (no one is talking about gay porn :) here) is maybe what is being objected too.

Now if your view is about your parental choice I agree with you 100%. Not wanting your child seeing that does not mean gay hate and parents should not be crucified for that.

But assuming that is what you mean, there is a large group of people who demand Disney not show that at all because of their personal preference/bias and therefore want Disney to change for them rather than making the choice to not see it.

Disney's attempts to tell stories involving Asians (Mulan, Shang Chi), African Americans (Princess and the Frog, Black Panther), Native culture (Moana), etc. has created greater inclusivity and wonderful story telling and...lets face it... $$$$. Seems LGBT XYZ is the final frontier and there are going to be a lot of missteps in getting there safely.

But that's not at all what I said. Read our exchange and you'll see I made a comment about the business decision of Disney first, and then it moved to him making comments about how I was the backwards one.

I have two points. The first, is anecdotal, but I believe to be true. That is that Disney's customers are overwhelmingly not of LGBTQ families. If you believe that is likely, then a decision made by Disney to support LGBTQ families while risking losing support of families that would find that content to their children as offensive, is a bad business decision.

The second point is just what you say - that each parent should be able to make the decision of what is right and what is wrong to show their individual child/children.

But Piezoe (and I assume Ricter since he supported those comments) believe I am backwards in my thinking.

  4. Well I am not calling you backward in your thinking. Just disagreeing that Disney trying to be inclusive to LGBT means they will lose a ton of people.

Disney does not have any customer base that is overlwhemingly any one category anymore since it is so global. From movie distributions to actual theme parks all over the world. If Disney wants to support the LGBTQ families with some content the approach has worked before in the past. If you are saying there will be famailies turned off by that, it will still be a net positive. I have heard plenty of social media chatter form people who complained about Black Panther or Princess and the Frog for obvious reasons but I think the net gain for Disney outweighs it.

Disney's audience is not overwhelmingly Black or Asian or what have you but movies focused on mixed race dating did not cost them business. Is gay a bigger leap than interacial characters or casts from one race. yes....but it will not cost Disney to lose its global audience because at the heart of all things Disney is the story and fantasy which sells.

You can object to Disney putting a kiss in Buzz Lightyear but it does not mean parents will turn away from the other 99% of Disney out there that does not have that content.

I disagree that Disney supporting LGBTQ families will cause them to lose a huge segment of people who disagree with that lifestyle. Remember all the people who claimed to drop Nike after Collin's ads? More noise than anything as Nike is still growing by leaps and bounds.

Disney will be ok as it tries to navigate the terrain of being inclusive to another group. its first steps will cause a lot of problems for sure. So past evidence is why I disagree with your first point and already support your 2nd.

Y’all, Disney put penises in the sky in Lion King and they’re bigger than ever. This ain’t shit.

But while I see the conversation still going, I would like to make the point that all of these tough talking right wing guys are still going to support Disney because nothing in this world makes a man change his mind like their daughters/granddaughters. When their little girl comes up to them and says she wants the Belle dress from beauty and the beast and they try to tell her all of this right wing bullshit and she starts to look disappointed, they’re going to buy that dress.

That’s the power of Disney. Go ahead and try to tell your little girl she can’t be a princess because Disney had a kiss in some movie she never seen. See what happens.

Ohh and we’re never going to Disney Land. Yeah, right. When little Timmy comes home and says Bobby went to Disney Land, can we go, go ahead and tell him about the gay kiss so he can’t ever go to Toy Story world or Magic Mountain. No Mouseketeer ears for you, Timmy. Yeah, right.

    Patterns: The Need for Order
Humans have a tendency to see patterns everywhere. That’s important when making decisions and judgments and acquiring knowledge; we tend to be uneasy with chaos and chance (Gilovich, 1991). Unfortunately, that same tendency to see patterns in everything can lead to seeing things that don’t exist.

Ok, then we can agree to disagree. I believe there are far more parents not interested in woke cartoons than there are parents who are interested in it. If you somehow believe otherwise, then that's fine.
