Do you really think this because of Sarkozy? BNP was already getting bigger and they just played well in the crisis. Nothing to do with government. Kerviel happened under Sarko too. I think regardless of who is president, the top financiers have a big foot in the door at the Ãlysée, in which country is this not the case? Other then that Sarkozy and his entourage were very closely connected to both BNP's handling of the crisis years and the other ones at times even positioning close protegees of him in high decision places (Pierre Mariani)... From what was leaked in the media during those crisis years one can only admire how the French banking system and it's government were prepared in advance to take advantage of the global turmoil compared to many other countries.

Apparantly he could have used his immunity but he chose not to. This is what is being said in my tv news here at least.
